Honest question. Why are his releases referred to as projects?

 

That term is used for anyone, not just The Weeknd. Have you not heard any other album/ep/mixtape referred to as a project? I don't mean that to be condescending at all just surprised.

 

Yeah, I honestly really haven't. I just generally hear release, album, record, EP, etc.

The first time I have seen project used was for this EP, and I have been pretty consistently seeing it used for this particular release.

 

"project" has become increasingly more common in the digital age. The lines between album and EP are blurred, album and mixtape, it's all just murky and honestly confusing.... Project is just a catchall and I find myself using the term pretty often these days

 

Ah I gotcha. Yeah it's used pretty interchangeably with album/ep. I think in this case you're seeing publications call it a project because no one really knows if it's an album or EP.

 

Yeah maybe that’s it. Makes sense. This is the first release I have seen written about as a project regularly.

 

Rumor is that the second EP is coming out on Friday

Eh this kinda killed the rumor for me. That’s a photo from a recent Instagram post of him, I feel like someone could have easily photoshopped that

 

Obviously its just a rumor so take it with a grain of salt, but his manager liked a picture saying that it was likely to come out on Friday on ig. Also tracklists have been floating around saying May 11th too. Obviously it could all be fake but I hadn’t seen actual dates until now

 

Yeah for now that’s technically a fan art. But it wouldn’t surprise me if the actual cover looked similar

 

Just give me MDM Pt. 2 please. I wouldn’t mind one bit if this next EP is exactly the same sound, I adore MDM.
