Summertime ‘06 comes in at under an hour, not exactly a true “double album” from my perspective. Plus there’s at least a few filler songs in my book towards the back half.

If iliwys is basically a double album at 17tracks, is The Canyon a double album?

 

Pretty sure it was marketed as a double album. It was released on 2CD and 2LP

 

Thinking of Iliwys as a double album is kinda cool actually if Somebody Else starts the second album

 

Another fun way to do it stems from something I noticed my very first listen: the songs (generally) work in pairs, like love me/ugh!, a change of heart/she's American, etc. if you divide it up every other song being one disc that might be a novel way to listen to it.

 

Could be a fun experiment to try.

 

Just looking at the tracklist, it would jump around a lot, but it might also totally work lol. Also would want to put How To Draw somewhere

 

It's strange to me that I'm being given a hard time about using length as a way to judge something as a double album when the entire negative conversation in this thread about a potential 1975 double album revolves around length.

 

My larger point is that this type of convo is all arbitrary. Thrice's Alchemy Index is billed as a double album when it's clearly four EPs, but that doesn't (or shouldn't) make a difference in how it's received. At the end of the day, good music is good music.

on the subject of double albums, I'm listening to HU,WD right now and I'm still unsure of how to feel about Raconte-Moi Une Histoire. there's always a song or a few songs like that on a double album. I like the challenge

no shit its arbitrary lol. just because ILIWYS is long and could be the length of a double album doesnt mean it is a double album. just because summertime 06 is 60 minutes long doesnt mean its not a double album. its all about however the artist packages and presents their art. its entirely up to them. so if the 1975 wanna do a double album i have no clue why someone would think that would be bad based on,,,,, nothing.

 

its really not hard to tell what is one long album and what is clearly two separate albums, regardless of whatever length

 

What if the 1975 opener is 19:75 long? Did we ever think about that?
