But the other person immediately going on the offensive when he was just trying to provide info is fucking stupid. Like you can’t flip out on someone who was trying to help and then back up and say it was rhetorical

Idk I just think that is fucking stupid. But I’m just one person so it doesn’t matter

  3. Yes you can. That post wasn’t helpful. It was, as I said, “gross.”

  4. Trying to stir the pot? The rhetorical question, sans question mark, was used as a header to a tier below the one labeled "bottom tier." I was making it perfectly clear how I felt about the movie. It's stupid as shit that the question was taken at face value to begin with.

He didn’t say it was right or anything. He just posted a thing that said why the director or whatever decided to do it. He doesn’t think it was right, I don’t think it was right

  6. I read the post. Why are you doing this?

Ah yes. People have never in the history of time accidentally left out a question mark. What a piece of shit for trying to help someone

  8. Knock it off. You don’t have to be this person online today.

Some weird tone policing going on in here huh

People have every right to be pissed about whitewashing and feel condescended when someone presents a devil’s advocate have defense of it

Because he didn’t mean any offense by it. He was just trying to help. People jumped down his throat and I just think it was clear that he didn’t agree with the article, he was just providing insight

I’m not trying to be anyone? Just think the reaction was a little harsher than it should have been is all. He didn’t post it with a quote after saying “this is totally fine because of this article.”

That is just how I see it. Carry on being offended Jason

I can't believe this is still going.

"I'm sorry. I misunderstood. You're right. My bad."

Those symbols aren't hard to type on a keyboard. Instead, we got the dictionary definition of "opinion."

    Please stop being a Tilda.

  14. The fact that he felt the need to be "generous" with his unbiased explanation is condescending as fuck.

I swear, this is some John Wick level assassin talk. It’s like you’re leveling up with each ban lol.

Trust me, I’m there with you. It’s painful to watch someone so obviously spiral out of control with bad takes and not knowing when to bow out.

I only ask that I be tagged in any thread where a ban is imminent so I can witness the final blow.

Could you elaborate more on how Justin's post was condescending to you as a POC? I promise, that's a genuine question and I'm asking for my own benefit as much as his. I've been lurking and I keep looking back and I'm trying to figure out for the life of me what Justin did to offend you in his initial post. I got that the explanation wasn't asked for since your question was meant to be rhetorical, but I can honestly see his mistake. I can also see why his post appeared defensive of the writers, but I also think he really was trying to be generous and provide information. If his intentions were to be generous, why is his post still "gross" as Jason said?

In case it wasn't already obvious, I'm white. Very white. Like, Georgia southern Baptist upbringing white. There are things I am naturally ignorant about because of my surroundings. If I unintentionally offend a POC, I really want to know why. But if the only response I get from a POC is a video saying "you're the worst" or that my explanation is condescending, that doesn't educate me very much. I can't bridge a gap that I'm not aware exists, and I don't want to be damned to the other side of the gap if I don't have to be. I need more to go on.

Also, since this is the internet and no one trusts anyone, I want you to know I'm not posting this so I can return with some zinger. I have finals due so after this post I'll be done with these forums for the next few days. I just don't want to leave this thread without a proper understanding of why things went down the way they did these last two pages.

  20. The whole situation reeks of white savior complex, or I guess whatever you'd call the racial equivalent of mansplaining. Regardless of what he may personally believe, he came in here generously imparting this enlightening knowledge of foreign countries' affairs to ignorants who obviously don't know what they're talking about. It was like saying, "But Japanese people who live in Japan don't see anything wrong with Ghost in the Shell." Japanese people who live in Japan didn't grow up not seeing themselves represented on screen, because they're obviously the majority of their own country. Relations between Tibet and China are wholly irrelevant to how Asians who grew up in America should perceive an American movie that failed to cast an Asian in what should have been an Asian role.

Also, I hate when people bring up "logic." And "rationality," like they're somehow superior. Of course I'm being irrational, my reaction to the movie's casting is entirely emotional. That doesn't mean it's wrong. Being able to come to an "unbiased, objective" standpoint regarding a topic shows your privilege in that it doesn't strongly affect you enough for you to actually care.

That look of surprise on Thanos' face when Cap single handedly held back the infinity gauntlet was everything.

    Edit: should have said double-handedly

Nah. Your irrational attacks on people who have lived their whole lives voting and working towards your inclusion are showing. But maybe you forgot to ask that before you assumed people are racist and afraid of their whiteness.

I hope there is more representation for the diverse fabric of people in this country. And we continue to have more cultural moments that impact everyone like black panther did and has done. I have two gay sisters and a black step dad. This ain’t hypothetical.
I understand it, haved lived around it, and feel for it.

This isn’t the fight, and the amount of energy you spend fighting it and others like it...is counter productive. As someone who is probably on your side in everything that matters, you should recognize allies and identify enemies with more scrutiny.

I bet you and Justin. have the exact same opinion on how the role should have been cast. But that clearly isn’t what matters. Or is it?
