It doesn't affect any enjoyment of the game, I just think microtransactions should only be for getting stuff you can't get by playing the game. Not to mention that as you say, there's only a chance at getting the item you want. What's the point in paying if you might get items for characters you don't like playing as?

The entire goal of the game is to level up to unlock loot crates - you don't get anything else for progressing. Just a little sucky that they've added a way to bypass that for those who will spend stupid money on crates.

 

I have yet to play the game but the idea that micro transactions are going to be in a game is almost a reality now days. They are they there if you want to partake or not for that matter. To each their own!

 

Im taking back what I said earlier, Overwatch looks sick.

 

When I get paid I might grab it. So excited, it looks great.

 

I think we actually have completely opposite perspectives on this, haha -- I think microtransactions should only be for things you can get by playing the game. I don't like when paying money is the only way to get something (not that you ever really have to, obviously), I think it's better if there's still a way to get things by playing normally (it just might take longer).

I also love that you're only able to buy the random boxes -- that way I (as someone who doesn't plan on buying boxes) don't feel like people are able to completely bypass progression by simply paying outright for a particular item. I feel like I still have almost as good of a chance at getting a particular item as someone who buys boxes, because there's no guarantee that person will get any particular item either.

 

Sorry if this has been talked about and I just missed it, but has there been any talk of making Overwatch cross-platform?

 

I completely agree. The only thing that you can pay for is loot boxes which you get by leveling up anyway and it doesn't affect your gameplay experience. They're just cosmetics. I actually don't like having to pay for something I can't get otherwise. Hearthstone works similarly - you can get card packs and adventures by grinding gold, and you have the option to pay real money as well.

yeah I'm sorry about that. Without getting into it, the end of last year was not very kind to me. I got a PS4 for Christmas so I've been splitting time between that and Xbox lately!

 

yep. I think it's pretty much the best way to add microtransactions in a game.

Ah that makes sense. It would have been cool but definitely not worth the frustration.

 

I have some reward certificates at GameStop to use, and this thread is really making me want to pick up Overwatch. Might grab it tomorrow.

 

This thread makes me want to play it and that's pretty much why I'm doing my best to avoid it, hahaha

Everybody playing Overwatch and I'm trying to get caught up on my backlog of games.

 

Overwatch has consumed me.

 

@aspeedomodel been playing The Witness and you told me to let you know my thoughts.

While I haven't beaten it yet, i've thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it thus far. The puzzles start off decently easy and get difficult pretty quick. I know you tend to play multiple games at a time and switch between them and I think this is a game you can easily do that with because it's broken up into sections and you can finish maybe 1 section every playthrough that could take anywhere from 10 minutes to a few hours depending on the section. The entirety of the gameplay is literally line puzzles after line puzzles so if you aren't big into constantly doing puzzles, maybe it's not your thing, but I'd definitely recommend it to anybody.

 

Kinda want to play The Division again and see what the update is all about. Although from what I've been reading online, it apparently embolden the griefers even more than before in the DZ.

 

i haven't bought it yet. with, you know, knowing my I LOVE BLIZZARD personality, is prob shocking to everyone. but i'm so obsessed with SMITE, and i want to finish AC Rogue and Unity and start Syndicate. BTW the missions in Rogue are so intriguing since they're not like the average AC game. Doing "Assassin Interception" as opposed to the regular "Assassination Contract" is pretty fun

 

another game i haven't gone back to yet haha. and i absolutely loved it too.

 

Really wish Ubi would make another Rouge title.

 

Long puzzle games like that need to be broken up or else you will go crazy. Another game that is sort of like that, but is more of a platformer, is Chariot. Great game but extremely long and sort of repetitive.

 

Yeah but have you tried unlocking an entire adventure by grinding gold? You're essentially halting your inflow of new cards to your collection for what could take weeks. I always felt like the people who shelled out the money for the adventures had an unfair advantage over me, especially with bullshit cards like Kel'Thuzad.
