I'd skip it. Lightning Returns is much, much more rewarding in that aspect.

Sorry this post doesn't concern a newer game but I started playing Resident Evil 4 again for the first time in about 5 years and my god, I instantly remembered why this is my favorite game ever.

I remember my first playthrough way back when and being blown away by how long the game was and the variety of environments. Was such a great surprise. I thought it would be nothing but villages because that's all that was shown ahead of time and then you get the castle and Los Illuminados. And then the island stuff. And then the Wesker and Ada stuff and my god it just kept going. Love it.

Honestly playing God of War is reminding me of the first time I played RE4. Which is my favorite game of all time.

It gives me the same feeling of a really long satisfying adventure with combat that just FEELS good. And a lot of the upgrading weapons and skills (from a memorable merchant) reminds me of it too.

I know @Nate_Johnson played it but had anybody else played Skylar & Plux: Adventure On Clover Island?

Yeah I like the gameplay and exploration of ffxiii-2 more as well. I know people didn't like the story and yeah it was lackluster but I did like Caius as the main villain. Also some of the puzzles were really challenging.

I know I'm like 10 years too late, but I got the Uncharted collection and just finished playing through Uncharted 2 for the first time.
God damn, that was one the top 5 best games I've ever played.

Uncharted 2 is a classic. I think 4 and Lost Legacy come pretty close though.

The Emails Behind The Whistle Blowing at Team Bondi

old story, but i'm playing LA Noire (I got halfway through it and stopped but i can't remember why) and good lord does Bondi sound like a bad place to have worked. really, really shitty that management put their workers through that, largely it sounds at the behest of one egomaniac. and kinda amazing that Rockstar is the relative good guy in it lol. the vg industry desperately needs widespread unionization.

My PS4 came with 4 so I bought the collection to play first. I was pretty meh on the first one, so I never played the others.

Yeah the first is ok but the jump to 2 is insane. Can’t think of another series where the level of quality between games is so large.

So I finished God War last night and I'm going to post thoughts with spoilers. If seeing black bars gets you all hot and bothered tOo BaD

I thought the ending was actually both beautiful and moving, but also a bit of a letdown. All the Jotunheim stuff was excellent, it was such a fantastic sequence that really put a button on the Kratos/Atreus dynamic that played out and developed over the course of the game. Where their relationship left off felt like a really good place and I was satisfied with that aspect of it immensely. I also loved the Loki reveal, as I was waiting to hear that name all game and it came back around in the most unexpected way imaginable. Finding out that Faye was a giant, and thus Atreus straddles the line between giant/god/mortal, was a real game-changer that re-contextualized so much of the journey that the two characters went on. The entire plot of the game was masterfully told and that continued up to this point 100%.

My one small issue comes immediately after that, however. Like, I get that this game was supposed to be the story of these characters paying their final respects to Faye, and that goal is met at the end of the game, it just felt a little too much like it was angling to set up another series of games set in Norse mythology world. I really wanted this to be a self-contained story, so never seeing Odin, and having Thor appear only in what is essentially a post-credits scene, was a bit of a letdown for me. I wanted the conflict between Odin and Kratos to come to a head in this game, but I understand that isn't what they were going for. As a springboard for a new series of games, it works incredibly well. I was just personally hoping it would be a one-off, so that isn't the game's fault, it's my fault.

All that said, though, it's one of the greatest games I've ever played and is tied with Bloodborne for me as the greatest game of this generation. All the hype was real, believe it. This game is the truth.

A lot of the stuff you said you wanted in this game, director Cory Barlog has said that was originally in the script, but they realized they were writing the second game.

Yeah I get that, and I've seen him make comments about sequels in the last couple days. I was just hoping this would be a self-contained story. Just my own personal feelings, like I said I recognize that's my thing and not the game's problem. I still adored it.
