My running is going pretty well. Saturday morning in Chicago was really windy on my way back. I did a ten mile run at like 7 minute pace, but the second half after I turned around was a lot of work. My legs were abnormally sore the next day and I only got in 6 miles at about 7:20 pace. Hopefully I am ready to go for tonight's running group.

One of the cooler parts of my job is being able to directly work with New York Road Runners on a 10k, which took place this Sunday. Such a great organization to work with, determined to find my way in for the next career move. They also upgraded me to VIP for NYC 2018 which is pretty sick.

The 10k course record was also shattered yesterday. An 18 year old from Kenya finished with a time of 27:08...

Just started reading Adharanand Finn's second book "The Way of the Runner", which is explores how the Japanese have become such good distance runners. It's really interesting and as good as his first book "Running with the Kenyans". I've amassed quite a library of books about running thanks to an excellent second hand store near me.

I think I’m finally fairly acclimated to CO now and the last week or so I’ve been running fairly consistently but god damn does my pace suck and it gets discouraging

Welp, currently limping home after getting 2 miles into my run. My right LCL(?) flared up and shooting pains. Came out of NOWHERE and I’m kinda freaking out.

It's almost as if nothing happened. Yesterday I couldn't go up the stairs but today it's almost completely normal except if I take a weird step I'll get the occasional pain. Super weird, not sure what it is.

Did some hill work yesterday for the first time really, woke up this morning and my glutes were killing me. Seems like a good thing to persevere with as it must be a weakness. Keen to improve my 5k and 10k times in the next few months with a load of speed/hill work.

Hill work is also good for your knees and running posture. Running hills forces the body to run more efficiently. Whether it's hill repeats or just running some hills in your everyday run, I am a proponent of incorporating hills into all of my runs. I also think there is some mental training to be had by completing a tough hill towards the end of a hard workout. Living in Chicago, I don't get much in the way of hills like I did in Cleveland. But I always tell folks to run hills if you have them, even if it's just one.

In NYC we have hills, they’re just called bridges.

In Chicago there is really nothing in terms of hills. Largest elevation changes are the highway ramps that you can't run on except in the marathon, and even then they aren't that bad.

In Cleveland, I used to do most of my running in a valley park system that stretches through most of the greater Cleveland area. Lots of land and lots of hills. Definitely doesn't compare to what folks see out west or even some more southern areas, but it was great for training or rehabbing from an injury if you had one. You can drum up some gnarly workouts by doing a long run and as you approach different entrances to the park you run up out of the valley. Once you reach the top and regain you breath, you jog back down and continue the same process for the duration of your run. Fun stuff and I miss it.

So today was my 40th parkrun (free weekly 5k's all around the UK) and I managed to beat my PB by just over 2 minutes - down to 21.18!! Couldn't believe it when I stopped my watch, absolutely massive improvement. I'm trying to work out how I managed it - been doing a lot of speed work in the last 2 or 3 weeks since my marathon so i guess it's just all come together. Also helped that I went to a different parkrun than normal and it was super flat. I felt aboslutely amazing throughout the run and probably still even had a little more in the tank...

Hackney half marathon next weekend - can't wait.

Running in NJ has become impossible for me. Ran a mile at an awesome at a good 6 minute pace for a 5k and promptly had an asthma attack. Never happened when I lived in Texas or Arizona. :tear:

Keeps happening so something is off. Have an appointment this afternoon to get it looked at this afternoon. Very anxious and nervous.

What kind of pain? I’ve been having a right knee issue on and off for more than 4 months now. Lower front knee cap gets stiff quite a bit, especially at night where I’ll feel an almost burning sensation. Weird thing is: never hurts when I’m running or active. Will get a bit more sore than usual afterward, sometimes a bit sensitive to the touch, but nothing to stop me from being active.

My guess is Knee Tendonitis. I actually had an orthopedic appointment scheduled a few months ago but cancelled because my gym offers a free 30-min appointment with a professional physical therapist (there’s a PT office connected to my gym) so I saw him and he did a bunch of motion tests and other things and he didn’t think it was anything serious but other than an MRI, he pretty much tested me how a dr would have. Gave me a bunch of stretches to do, which admittedly, I don’t always keep up with.

Rest and ice don’t seem to help much. Pretty much took all of April off but still annoys me sometimes.

I haven't ran a step since March 31st. I still feel a little twinge in my achilles from time to time but nothing alarming. Probably going to do more ASTYM treatments on myself; already done a couple. First week in June I'll probably head out to run again and see how it goes. 2 months without running isn't something I wanted, but at least it could be a lot worse.

And.... I've devoted some time to core strength and lifting some weights for my upper body. Trying to get swol over here.

I have been taking a few weeks off due to some shin pain. I initially thought it was under the general umbrella of shin splints, but after trying to run this past Monday, the pain and some swelling got me thinking it was potentially a stress fracture. After icing and more rest the pain is almost gone. So I am not sure what's going on, but hoping a little more rest will get rid of the pain for good.
