It's also the effect of having the most controversial President this country has ever seen.

Just bc he’s well versed in one area doesn’t mean he understands how hateful rhetoric and the enabling thereof can affect those less fortunate than him. Intersectionality and perspective is important and he hasn’t seemed to have either in awhile

I get the “two minutes about politics” comment tho I’d honestly just apply it to Kanye’s preferred method of sharing thoughts on a lot of topics, especially thru Twitter, w/o maybe thinking them over

This is true and it sucks. I don’t know which came first through, extreme binary politics or the political culture that fuels it.

a known assaulter has one of the highest selling albums of the year. those people can very easily justify listening to kanye when it's "just tweets"

thinking kanye is doing this simply to sell albums is fucking ludicrous for so many reasons. one, you really think kanye west would have troubles selling albums regardless? you think he cares about selling albums that much? you think getting half the country pissed off at him, including the majority of his own fans, is a good publicity move? nah. he's doing this because this is who he is. stop letting him off the hook and saying its for publicity.

yall upset about chance must not have been paying attention when he bullied mtv news into taking down a mildly critical article

I don’t think any of us are “letting him off the hook” and don’t believe he sincerely feels the way. Him sharing his political opinion very bluntly in such a public way when his album is due is why we think he is aiming for headlines. It doesn’t have to be one or the other and can be a mixture of both. We all know he is a sucker for controversy.

I'm no businessman but cosigning one of the most unpopular people on the planet doesn't seem like clever marketing.

yeah no i think you absolutely risk severely downplaying his actual beliefs by stating this is for headlines

As has been pointed out, he only talks to the public when he has an album to sell. But this is the same bullshit he was talking about with the last album cycle. It's a continuation of who he has been for a long time, not a new phenomena to boost attention. The album coming out is incidental to all of this.

Like I said in the comment you just responded to, it doesn’t have to be one or the other. He can sincerely feel this way while “coincidentally” deciding to go on a Twitter rant, post his signed hat, and post an image of his posing with said hat.

It’s not like he is sharing his beliefs because he was asked about it, he is flashing it. People don’t do that unless they’re trying to gain something from it. It’s entirly not above his character to use his political beliefs to push himself into headlines and that doesn’t mean he truly doesn’t have those beliefs. Being that it’s Kanye, I don’t think he was presenting his beliefs and photos just to let people know how his day was going.
