I spent a lot of time the past few days breeding fletchlings, so I could get the perfect Talonflame for my 9 year old cousin so he could beat all of his friends... Am I a good or a bad person???

Does anyone here have a second 2/3DS with which they can clone Pokemon? I ask 'cause I've now got the wonderful fortune of having 2 perfect IV Dittos and I'm considering sharing the wealth 'cause my generosity knows no bounds.

 

I have 2 3DS. (Also have a 6Iv ditto but i didnt clone it)

 

I have a question about EV training. I see most people going for a 252/252/4 split, but wouldn't it also be useful to spread them out a bit more, at least depending on the Pokemon? Like say a 252/152/100/4 (or whatever else you can think up) type of thing?

 

It really depends on the pokemon. Yveltal for example. has a pretty standard spread of

• 132 HP

• 28 Atk

• 252 SpA

• 96 Spe
  
  But then there are Pokemon like Alakazam, who is really just an all out special attacker where this is standard.

• 4 Def

• 252 SpA

• 252 Spe
  
  I don't understand the amount of detail in a lot of stuff, but that's what I use Smogon for (when it comes to general ideas of how EV's should go). haha

 

It's usually like:
-boost speed to the amount it needs to be for the pokemon's role
-boost atk/def/spa/spd to amount needed, whichever is priority
-throw rest in useful stats

A lot of pure attackers will get a full speed boost but some other roles only need to outpace certain Pokemon so they won't get a full 252.

Of course that doesn't apply to all of them though, but it's a decent rule to go by when figuring out why stats are a certain way, it's to either do full boosts or to reach a point before the return is diminishing, then to fill in other helpful areas

 

So depending on the Pokemon then, which is what I figured. I just saw the 252/252/4 figure so overwhelmingly often that it was making me second guess myself.

The lesson here is always trust your first instinct no matter what.

 

@White yup. The specific EV spreads are for when you're trying to avoid specific things like being OHKO-ed by a specific 'mon that counters your team. Or since you only need 1 more Speed to outspeed a Pokemon, you can make sure a particular one doesn't outspeed you. Like for example a base 80 with Timid can still possibly outspeed your base 100 if he's not careful. So you put enough EVs on your speed so that even if he puts 252 EV on that Pokemon's speed you'd still win the speed game.

Or you know. Whatever. Pokemon's a stupid game I don't even play it.

Do people have a preference when it comes to X/Y? I'm finally going to get it and I was just curious haha.

 

I'm a big fan of Dragalge and Yveltal. There is no real difference in game though. (shiny) Yveltal is available for free right now, so it's whatever forever.

 

That's what I figured but I just thought I'd ask. And yeah, I got both of them from the events so it really doesn't matter.

 

I haven't played X but enjoy Y a lot. I picked Y over X solely based on megas for Mewtwo/Charizard though and use neither now so my opinion is probably irrelevant haha.

 

Does anyone actually breed for competitive wifi battles? If so, why? Why not just play showdown?

 

Honestly I just find it more satisfying with the extra effort. I use showdown to get ideas on teams/movesets then try and make it happen in game.

 

Everytime I play Yellow, I always catch 6 and only 6 pokemon. I always end with Pidgeot, Raichu, Blastoise, Charizard, Mewtwo, and Gyrados.

 

Showdown has a different meta. I play both.
