    X-Men Apocalypse

Real bad. significantly worse that the previous 2 which i enjoyed. The main problems were the plot and the writing.
The main villain was as boring and annoying as his dumb grey face and slow voice, classic just wants to take over the world because "mutants rules!". His powers are all of them expect the Professors but he needs 4 friends with powers he already has because of prophecy/no reason. Lets just compare to magneto the villain from the last movie who has one power which he uses creatively, a compelling
back story with believable motives and portrayed very well by Mr Fassbender. This time we get A CGI Greyboblow who we know nothing about expect one time he was in a magic pyramid that fell down and he has all the powers but only uses like 2, and not very well.

The writing for the whole thing was extremely cringy, almost every time i laughed was at how bad most of the dialog was. I know its a super hero movie and some cheese is unavoidable but i really dont recall the last 2xmen being that hard to sit through. i just felt bad for Fassbender having to say some of those lines. not that bad tho casue hes a handsome movie star whos dick swings low but yeah.

No idea why Rose Byrne was even in the movie. Well i do; because they need 2 people to kiss at the end but they could of cut her completely and the movie would of been better. She didnt do a bad job, just her character was pointless, anyone else could of explained the prophecy (im pretty sure some else did it again anyway) and she had her memory of the last movie wiped so I assumed she could fall in love with Pro X all over again expect that didnt happen, they spent no time together and he just gave her memory back at the end, so she was like "i remember" and then they kissed?????

The Silver flashes Deus Ex Machina scene went on far too long. Night crawler could of deus Ex a few times but didnt which is forgivable and his sound effect was Very statsifying. Wolverine's cameo was cool, i liked it a lot. The trend of Magneto murdering people but then switching sides at the end and everyone just goes "oh magento LOL" continues. They did a good job on capturing cyclopes doucheness. magnito's wife and child dying to one accidental slow-mo arrow was by far the funniest moment of the movie dude who did look just like the Mr Krabs meme.

Apocalyptic demonstrates some of his powers at the start, he can sand wipe people
and they die instantly, he can open up the earth and it swallows people. instantly. but when he fights actual powerful mutants at the end all he does is trap their ankles??
and try to punch them!?!1. i thought he explained that he had absorb all the mutant powers through body swaping history time pyramid ??

On the whole "we fear what we dont understand", no actually we fear shit that can kill us. Would i be scared of a teenager who shoot super lazers out is eyes? yes, its very concerning because i understand that if i get hit by a massive lazer beam i will die and literally everyone agrees teenagers having guns is not cool and this is way worse 100 X worse! AND we cant even take it away till hes a responsible adult and have another different argument if its ok then. I dont fear my fridge but its essentially a cold box that runs on magic and everyday i enjoy a tasty cold beverage and dont look it up which i could do at any point in time on my magic pocket computer, yet never in 26years have i cared to do so.

2 hours forty minutes run time. disappointing

The Color Wheel (2011) & Queen of Earth (2015)

both directed by Alex Ross Perry

    The Color Wheel

A guy helps his sister pick up stuff from her Ex boyfriend, nothing exceptional happens but the writing is hilariously dry and dark and drives the whole movie.
Really goes out with a bang. Highly recommend.

    Queen of Earth

Another story of a women in trouble (ala Inland Empire, AntiChirst and those other movies where a women goes crazybananas but this is restrained by realism..sorta) and Highlights how annoying people in relationships can be. The way characters speak their mind in a very blunt and crushing sense
is used in the coloring wheel mostly for a type of shock humor is used again in QoE but with no humor undercutting instead adds to the off putting journey of Elisabeth Moss to crazytown. This not being a comedy and ARP having more exp theres more attention and direction to camera shots and scenery adding to the ominousity in the air.
I wish was better at writing about movies i like but i dont think anyone needs to hear 500 of me DAE hate crazy women loool. Maybe ill go back and analyse how great some of the jokes in TCW were later dont know how that would go though

Never seen any of them tbh. I just thought it was funny that each subsequent sequel was incrementally worse haha

There is actually a large gap in quality from the second to the third, just so happens that the fourth one is ever so slightly below the third one.

The End of the Tour (2015)

Jason Segul plays author David Foster Wallace on a short book tour with a reporter after the release of his novel Infinite Jest. This year i have spend 50+ hours on infinite jest and watching/listening to interviews with DFW and will almost indefinably spend similarly massive amounts of time going through the rest of his work as infinite Jest is so far my favorite peace of media/entertainment/art ive ever consumed and could gush on about it for hours, infact i would love to so much that i will be purchasing a copy for my brother for his birthday next week because i have no-one to talk to it about and he is the only person i know who would appreciate the themes and story while also being able to finish a 1000 page book.

I was a little hesitant to watch as Jason Segal really hasnt done much to flex his acting chops and seems to always just play Jason Segal, which i dont mind but im very judgy and dfw's persona is not Jason Segal but he was surprisingly good from the many interviews id seen of DFW, he did cut out the slight stutter dfw has sometimes but its probably for the good of the movie. Im not sure this would stand alone as a film for people who are not heavily interested in DFW as not much happens he sort just talks to the reporter and says things ive heard in interveiws but without the context of reading Ininite Jest the full wieght and reason of why people keep asking him about addiction, depression and exestensal meaning through achievement and pleasure would be certainly lost though at the end of the film i still got the deep moving sadness that happens when i watch those interviews so 10/10???

though i dont think The of the Tour did DFW an injustice though id probably rather watch the real interviews with him for essteinaly the same effect or better yet experience infinite jest again but thats a much larger though worthwhile commitment

side notes; fuck jesse elieiberg, i know hes not supposed to be likable but i get an intense hatred looking at his face, also dfw was a 9 out of 10 on the nineties scale and everything/everyone else was like a 6 and was a little off putting

    I'm Back.

    They're Watching

Strange, strange little horror flick about a "house hunting" type of show that follows a couple to the small Eastern European country of Maldova, where they purchase a fixer upper. When the crew returns 6 months later to check on the progress of the house, shit hits the fan in some of the most brutal and fucking weird ways possible.

I don't even know where to begin with this one, there is a lot of "nothing" that happens in the first 3/4 of They're Watching, but it's got some solid comedy so I have no choice but to give it a pass. That last 1/4 though, it's worth the watch for this alone.

    Ex Machina (2015)

A fun set of discussions through turin tests, artificial intelligence, sentience accented with a unique, smooth stylish aesthetic which is important for these no action scifi moves (see - Her). Theres a good dose of mystery and tension to keep you invested though the conversations between spectacularly drunk Oscar Isaac (more hes spectacular and drunk not just spectacularly drunk. though he is sometimes), a dumb-ass kid and a sexy robot.

Theres a killer dance scene in the middle that really steals the show and a brilliant way to break the story into the next act. Seriously just look at it. Best redirect & comeback of 2015. Rings true to real life as well, i made a joke last year at work which i transitioned into a dance move and it crushed and still look back fondly and now will en devour to do it again but the key is probably keeping it very smooth and natural which maybe be challenging to pull off intentionally without going over a 6 on the douche-scale.

There's no duesing thank god but its still teased in a fun way, the reveals where good and made sence but werent condescending which i like everything i could ask for topped off with a imo a statisfying ending

Theres also very prominent sexual themes that raise important questions about under what circumstances would you have sex with a robot (for me its the point at which they become self cleaning, and why i dont own a flesh light now because i know i wouldn't clean it during the post orgasm shame spiral... shames not the right word.... but its close. its needs cleaning is the issue. i dont have a problem with people using toys or as an extension robots and they shouldnt be shamed becasue of it) and why we need to keep them away from teenagers, because they will fall in love and you will get stabbed just like Sarah Conor warned us.
the robot stabbing motioning was another highlight, Woowee! just so smooth and cold.

    Wanda (1970)

this weeks film club movie (will re-post in the official thread as well)

"if you dont want anything you wont have anything and if you dont have anything youre nothing."

    The story of an aimless and probably deeply depressed women as she wanders through encounters after abandoning her family. The film is quite dull to sit threw; there's no music, its scarce of dialog, the pacing is slow and dreary which reflects the general depressed apathy Wanda has towards herself and life. on the surface The events of the film certainly have the potential to entertain;
she sleeps around, gets abandoned, goes to court, runs away with an abusive bank robber, participates in a bomb threat, hostage, bank robbery, then escapes rape but Wanda's already checked out and just continues to let her life unravel.

    Room (2015)

Just finished watching it so I don't have all my thoughts gathered, but I'm blown away by the performances from the entire cast. Wish there was more resolution between the grandfather and the son, but besides that, really fantastic movie. Great score as well.

    9/10

Fantastic Four is not as horrible as it's cracked up to be. It's mostly just kinda dull. The CGI scenes are competent, but a bit lifeless. The build up to the villain is short and anti-climactic. And a lot of the rest is just mopey and yawn.

Really the one thing they do well is the actual transformation scene.

    The Purge: 3/10

Pretty terrible. They take an interesting (if silly) idea and turn it into a lame home invasion thriller. No likeable characters, incoherent action scenes, limp villain, and character actions that defy any logical explanation.

    The Purge - Anarchy: 7/10

Not a great movie, but an improvement on the first in literally every way. Puts the movie in the center of the action (the actual purge). Dials up and embraces the insanity and ham-handed politics. Predictable but at least fun to watch.
