Yeah the 30STM debacle and what happened on twitter/checkeredfloors post on here regarding Jason was super shitty. We don’t get along all the time, but I’d never question his motives like they did.

I have a lot of complicated feelings that I need to sort out about Pinegrove. I had suspected Sheridan did that without the person’s permission, but it hadn’t been confirmed. That said, what Evan did sucks. On the other hand, me coming on here and saying “you shouldn’t listen to Pinegrove what Evan did sucks” is very similar to what Sheridan was doing.

I’ve been thinking a lot as I’ve been selling off my record collection about people who still listen to music by abusers. I started by judging them, but I’m profiting off of abusers to pay my rent and to cover up my Brand New tattoo, so what place do I have to judge. Who is really being hurt by someone sitting in their house and listening to a Brand New record that has helped them through a hard time? Especially if they understand what the abuser did and aren’t continuing to financially support them. People are complicated and have emotional connections to music

  4. Seeing hardcore bands I’ve worked with (some who have condemned the Harry Corrigan situation in talks with me) promote his bands new music has me beyond bummed out today.

I’m in a similar place re: Brand New. Sold my records on eBay and to a local shop and some limited release tour posters and t-shirts to some kid on Facebook. The money is also going toward covering my tattoo. And you’re right, it feels weird, but now that I’m almost half a year removed from the situation, I don’t feel like I have the emotional capacity to care anymore, if that makes sense. I spent those first few weeks sick to my stomach over it and anxious as hell every time another story came out. Now I feel numb and a little bitter.

At the end of the day, people are still going to listen to and care about Brand New and defend them vehemently. As a woman, it bothers me to know that knowing what Jesse did. But I guess it’s out of self-preservation to just not bother anymore.

Sorry for rambling, I just know how weird and awful those complicated feelings can be.

That was a good read, thanks for sharing.

I remember one of my first shows, it was a crowded smaller club in Denver and my friends and I were right up front. During one of the openers, a girl tapped on my shoulder and asked which band I was there to see. I told her and then she said "we're here to see the band that plays right before them. Could you let us in front of you guys for our band and then we will make sure you get up front for the band you're here to see?" They were true to their word and it was a great night.

Like, why is that so hard for some of these dudes to do?

    Edit:
For those wondering, it was Sherwood, Houston Calls, We Shot the Moon, and the Higher.
The venue was The Marquis in Denver.

The whole Pinegrove situation is just such a weird and confusing thing to me. I mean obviously Evan did something shitty and traumatized his victim but at the same time she seemed to be ok with his band still being a thing. It almost feels as she just needed to confide in someone to get the situation off her chest and Punk Talks in turn used that to bring down a band for whatever reason. I certainly haven't been able to listen to Pinegrove since that all went down which is a shame because I have very fond memories of seeing them in concert in the city I refer to as 'home' before me and my girlfriend up and moved across the country. At the same time I just feel kind of gross enjoying belting some of their songs alone in my car so I've just avoided them altogether.

I've also lately been having a feeling similar to what Jason mentioned regarding Brand New lately. I haven't listened to them since everything came to light but I have been having a "tinge" as Jason called it of wanting to listen to them. I never had tattoos for them or anything and I've just kind of thought that I'll keep my records so that one day I will be able to show my children, should I have any, what music was important to me in my formative years even if I have to explain to them what soured me on the band. I know me and my dad connected through music and it would just feel weird to not be honest about what I was into.

Just want to say I echo this entirely, I too haven't had the stomach to listen to pinegrove since Evan's statement came out and I straight up miss their music, it became very important to me. I don't think it helps anyone if we're unable to voice these feelings and process these issues honestly.

It’s shocking to me that Punk Talks thinks they can keep going with Sheridan still employed there. That board needs to disband and form a new organization without her.

Yup...I don't know, with hardcore I've adapted the mindset that the people are shitty unless proved otherwise. I'm the most disappointed with Incendiary, I get they are from the same place but the things they write about would lend me to think that they'd know better/care.
