Clementines are bright colored, and English streets are dark colored , which creates contrast, which made Dan dizzy.

i wrote it down for you Verified

if i were fuckin' around and writing out an ideal set list for this band ... not necessarily for this tour, maybe a later tour in the album cycle ... how cool would it be to see all six album closers in a row to close out the main set, before coming back out for an encore?

All My Friends Are In Bar Bands
    And Now I'm Nothing
I Just Want To Sell Out My Funeral
    No Closer To Heaven
    The Ocean Grew Hands

i could leave Bar Bands behind here tbh. the closers are all draining in different ways, it's tough to shoehorn them into sets (and they're all pretty hard songs to play, too), but it's a great microcosm of their progression.

The clementine line is a good line and you can fight me on that
I'm not a native of the UK and moving here colours become so damn important because a lot of stuff is just grey. It just is. The sky, the daylight, the pavement, the buildings. So colours become so striking to people who are not used to that greyness and may find it overwhelming (visitors and new arrivals).

In my first year of living in Glasgow, light and colour were a constant source of marvelling : the yellow sunset light, the orange of the sandstone, the green of the grass, the purple undertones in the trees. I don't notice it as much now, but I think, while it may seem like a peculiar line, the colour + movement + symbolism of the clementines falling and rolling all over the street is a striking splash of colour to someone who's still noticing how grey everything is.

  9. As far as a perfect setlist, I gave myself 24 songs since that's how many they've been playing on the UK tour...

We Look Like Lightning (how cool would this be as an opener?)
    Pyramids of Salt
    Dismantling Summer
    Local Man Ruins Everything
    A Song For Ernest Hemingway
    Logan Circle
    There, There
    Passing Through a Screen Door
    It Must Get Lonely
    Madelyn
    My Life as a Pigeon
    Cul-De-Sac
    I Don't Like Who I Was Then
    A Raindance in Traffic
    Hostels & Brothels
    An American Religion (FSF)
    We Could Die Like This
    Heaven's Gate (Sad & Sober)
    Stained Glass Ceilings
    Washington Square Park

I Just Want to Sell Out My Funeral
    Cigarettes & Saints
The Ocean Grew Hands to Hold Me
    Came Out Swinging

Initially, I had Logan Circle, My Life as a Pigeon, I Don't Like Who I Was Then and An American Religion (FSF) all together in one block, but that much double time in one go would tire me out.

I still think NCTH just sounds so bad from a technical standpoint that it’s almost unlistenable. Wish I could fall in love with it. I do love I Don’t Like Who I Was Then.

Master of not knowing what the hell I'm doing.

That's the one song I don't really gel with on that album, because I remember when they released that before the album actually came out it sounded like dogshit because it was a low quality stream and that's hung over it in my mind. This is coming from someone that doesn't really get too much of the production/mixing issues with that album either.

On another note, seeing these guys do a VIP set in Bristol tonight. Interested to see what extra songs they add now that they're playing an extended set anyway (I kmow one of my picks is in rotation in the acoustic set).

    Scheduling issues apparently.

  17. Yeah the Bristol one is still on but with the amount of travelling they're doing I can see why ours didn't work out. Still tho, THE GIG IS TOMORROW AAAHHH

Yeah that sucks, I'm sure it'll still be great though! Like I said I'm kinda unsure what they'll do for the VIP given their set is huge now anyway so you won't be missing too much. Can't wait!

Damn last night's set was incredible. Despite the circumstances I'm really grateful for the acoustic set, all of the burst and decay renditions were gorgeous (would've loved to hear The Ghosts of Right Now electric, but oh well). The new songs come off really well live, particularly Pyramids, Lightning and Ocean. The VIP set was great too, felt like it was worth the extra money for sure getting some deep cuts. Good job @nicksteinborn!

Listening to “Dismantling Summer” and then listening to “Raining In Kyoto” makes for a real sad story. Makes me miss my Grandpa a lot since I lost him in a pretty relatable way to these songs.

  24. Last night was fucking amazing. Got an amazing view because upstairs was open. Got the setlist courtesy of a friend down the front. New songs sounded fantastic and I liked how they had to play half the electric set in different tunings to minimise the time they spent doing that, it really gave the older songs a different character and helped them slot in around the new stuff nicely.

Got my VIP poster and keyring which I'll post in here later. Dan gave it 100% on vocals last night which meant we got Screen Door as the only encore. He was struggling near the end of the main set so we didn't get Cigs and Saints to close as his voice couldn't handle it. Belfast probably gets it tonight, I don't think it would have been as much of a problem if Dublin was the last stop in the tour but it wasn't. It's fine though, the band don't end shows early unless they absolutely have to so I understand. Maybe next time.

    Oh yeah and this happened.
