Carnifex is surprisingly tight as a live band. Hope you enjoyed it.

My honeymoon didn't make my musical opinions less frigid.

I will give ya this - Hell Chose Me has a decent ending breakdown. It surprised the shit out of me when I was metal director at my college radio station.

Damn, Oceana. That is a blast from the past.

I want to hear more about this metal director radio gig

I was "loud rock" director at my college radio station for two years aka in charge of the metal and hardcore genres for those related shows (~5 per week at the time). This was from 2008- 2010. Promoters and labels sent me things to play on the air, and I occasionally supplemented them with stuff from my own library. Despite my curmudgeonly ways when it comes to metal, I didn't discriminate with what made it into rotation so the DJs I oversaw could play whatever they wanted. So stuff like Dream Theater and shitty Victory records metalcore still made it. DJs had to play five songs an hour from rotation and then could play whatever they wanted otherwise. It was a pretty sweet gig.

My senior year, I was the programming director who was in charge of FCC compliance, reporting to CMJ and ASCAP, and oversaw all of the genre musical directors. That was a paid gig and required 5x the work...I still enjoyed it a lot though.

Lemme see if I can dig up some of my old playlists...

I had actually seen Carnifex maybe 6 months ago, opening for Whitechapel and thought they were pretty good. They were just okay last night, nothing special. Oceano was interesting. I hadn't even thought about that band in nearly a decade. I actually enjoyed them a bit, but the deathcore crowd was atrocious. The worst part about the whole thing was, I was supposed to be seeing Big K.R.I.T (not that the metal thread will care) but it didn't work out.

how do we feel about the second half of the Panopticon album? It's got some nice instrumentation but the guy isn't the best singer

I don't think I got to it or my focus had shifted by then...I will say that the vocals are something I notice the least in Panopticon's work...not that it's bad it's just that it blends with the overall sound so smoothly it doesn't stand out. I'll give it another listen.

The new Our Place Of Worship Is Silence album came out yesterday and is some pretty sick death/black metal. Reminds me of last year's Ominous Circle album, though not as cavernous. Two-man group from LA, their names are Tim and Eric lol.

ill probably only be returning to the first half. the second half isnt bad its pretty good but not something that will warrant repeated listens from me

The $5 concerts continue tomorrow with Dying Fetus/Enterprise Earth/Thy Art Is Murder/Rivers of Nihil/Sanction

Pretty stoked for Rivers. Would love to see some live sax but I'm doubtful. Sanction should be cool too.

There's new Winterfylleth and Carpathian Forest for black metal. I've been jamming Skeletal Remains, Our Place of Worship is Silence, and Scorched on the death metal side of things.

There's a new album from Unravel (death/grind/hardcore), which I figured some in here will like

Eras Of Forfeit LP, by Unravel
