the top comment on the second thread is like "is there any way to have sex without being called a rapist???????" which is the most ridiculous, asinine, disgusting viewpoint to hold. folks, it is very easy to have sex without being a rapist. its called consent. its not weird to ask for consent. it doesnt "kill the mood." you know what kills the mood? forcing someone to do something they dont want to do

When people say stuff like that (or describe the Aziz thing as a “bad date”), it really makes me feel like they personally do those same things

I’m still angry that people think what Aziz did was normal and not manipulative. There’s a reason this is so widespread and people aren’t held accountable.

Tbh it's why I'm extremely cynical and never rly surprised when someone is accused because so many people don't seem to understand what consent is or that they even did anything wrong. I know my assaulter doesn't view what happened as assault or see himself as an assaulter at all. So much bs is normalized. It's heartbreaking because I've known so many women who have had uncomfortable encounters that blame themselves or try to normalize it and they should never have to feel like that is a normal part of dating or existing

that's why there needs to be far more focus on consent in sex ed. it's very possible, and probably more likely than not, that people who commit abuses don't actually know they were being abusive. behavior of men won't change until they're actually taught that this is not okay

I also think there needs to be more programming to teach young girls to be more confident in themselves and empowered not feel the need for the approval of men, no matter how famous they are.
There is a wonderful new program called Beautiful Me that started in NY and is spreading across the country.

  11. The two aren't mutually exclusive. Lack of female empowerment and male entitlement are symptoms of the same disease.

I always see a lot of comments saying things like, “Well if that’s rape then every man I know is a rapist,” and they think they’re proving that the accusations are ridiculous but really it’s a very different point being made.

  13. Every time someone says something like that I'm just like... congratulations at accidentally arriving at the point

Good luck getting conservatives to budge on a sex ed cirriculum though

Definitely worth noting that the majority of Americans never have consent education until they get to college. Considering the fact that a lot of band members never make it past high school, they likely never received any.

Wrecked 'em? Damn near killed 'em!

Apologies for coming across as ignorant here, but aside from Eminem, Chris Brown or JT, I'm unsure of who else on this list is an abuser or has said questionable things. I don't know or follow most of these artists and until yesterday I haven't been active in this thread in a while, but it'd be nice to have that awareness since these are clearly huge artists.

Color me shocked someone who goes by 6ix9ine is an abuser. Probably should've seen that coming. Anyway, thanks for the heads up.

how guys like xxxtentacion and tekashi 6ix9ine can not only survive but absolutely thrive and flourish post-accusations is completely mind blowing. I mean not only is what they both did particularly heinous, but these accusations also have law enforcement involved which is usually the thing internet idiots use to discredit claims (why didn't they sort this out in court???). And they both happened at a time when many big name celebs are getting taken down.

    * I did see Chris Brown, but at this point I think it's fair to say that the case is closed on him.
