almost 5 years in and marriage has been amazing overall. sure we went through rough patches and there was time when the sex kinda sucked, but we've been great at bringing it back to the good times. some of the best sex of my life has come in the past few months. my wife is amazing and so sexy tho, so that helps.

I've known so many married couples who coincidentally seem to have issues around their 7th year of marriage so I am convinced it's doomed.

My parents briefly separated their 7th year of marriage but got back together before ultimately divorcing another 7 years later. A family friend couple I know started having problems around the 7 year mark too and they're still together but I remember her venting about it and all the other adults being like yuuuup it's the 7 year mark and I'm like WHAT DOES THAT MEAN

Being in a relationship takes a lot of effort. When you're thinking in terms of "the rest of your life" -- that's a huge commitment

I dunno how I feel about marriage. I want a family, but the concept of being with someone forever sounds intimidating. Like, when we died at 40-50, I guess it wasn't so scary. But we are mostly dying older now and the concept of "forever" has evolved. As science continues to progress that meaning will only further change and eventually that idea will die out I think. My buddy is 20 and getting married in a couple months and I'm just like, dude, that's potentially 60+ years of being with the same person. That's scary imo, but maybe I'll meet someone perfect for me and I'll eat my hat.

I don't say never to things like marriage or kids cause I could always meet the person who inspires those feelings in me, but so far I've never been thrilled about either

Like if I could have a few really meaningful relationships that were healthy and worked for that point in my life but maybe didn't last forever cause we grew apart or wanted different things out of life I think I'd be okay with it and I think it's a lil more realistic for me. Well healthy relationship has always been a stretch for me lol but assuming I get it together at some point. I remember my mom once asking "kiana do you really see you two having a future and being together for the rest of your lives?" And I was like ew who said that

I’m excited to have kids. Just don’t think I necessarily need to get married to do so

Boom. Totally agreed. Like, a lot of times when these celebrity power couples breakup people are like, “omg love isn’t real!” And I’m just like uhhh, no, it was very real for a limited time. Shit don’t last forever and it’s silly to expect relationships of all things to last. And the only reason we’re comfortable using the word “forever” is cause we know we’re gonna die lol. I’m sort of of the opinion now that some people enter our lives andante in the time they are there they help us in some way and then they move on

    I was right. Prestigious

I want kids but I definitely want some sort of partner/spouse/whatever first. being a single parent sounds incredibly hard.

Yeah I def agree. Seeing marriage/forever as the end goal is totally fine if that's what someone wants, but sometimes it seems like the only end goal people will consider. I had a friend who didn't want me to see this guy cause she thought it wouldn't last and would be a "failure" and I think we just have differing views of failure. To me if I have fun and grow in some way and gain a positive experience it's not a failure. But I think to her it's a failure if it doesn't last forever which is kinda sad and a ton of pressure put on dating to me.
