Yeah I like Simmons, but his response did come off pretty arrogant. The comment that “none” of the other rookies have stood out to him seemed a bit unnecessary.

Tatum, Mitchell, and Kuzma have had great Rookie seasons without having a year of prep.

I think Simmonsnis a better player, but Mitchell has had a better season. It’s close and I wouldn’t be mad at either winning.

Yeah I think it should be closer than it probably will be. Mitchell led a team to 47 wins in the west the year after they lost their best player. Simmons was the second best player on a 50 win team in the east. Agree that Simmons is the better player, but I think Mitchell’s season was better. Perfect year for another Grant Hill/Jason Kidd situation.

The decline in his play aside, I'm pretty sure he stated after the last Olympics that it would be his last time playing for USA. So yea, he wasn't getting selected either way.

That lineup should all but guarantee the Timberwolves a win tonight. Portland is still fighting for home court, so Denver can't ease up off the gas for a second. This should be fun.

I wouldn’t be mad at Mitchell winning if you take the “Simmons had a year around pro level” before he played. But he had the better season. Simmons should have been an all-star reserve this year. Mitchell’s season has been good enough to win the award most years, but Simmons is absurd.

Yesterday, the Suns sat: Booker, TJ Warren, Josh Jackson, Chriss, and Payton.

It was some truly spectacular tanking. They basically ran a G-League team out there...and also Jared Dudley.

It’s been clear for a while that the Grizz and the Suns are clearly the best tankers we had this year. The rest were just pretenders to the throne.

I'm leaning Simmons, especially after the Cleveland game, but I'd have no real issue if Mitchell won. I'm also totally cool with the trash talk. The NBA thrives with rivalry's, so if this sparks one between those two. I'm all for it.

Mitchell has had a great rookie season, Simmons is having a great NBA season for anyone. 3rd most assists, 16th in rebounds, 5th in steals. Simmons is averaging a triple double down the stretch here and Embiid has been out 6 games and Dario 3 of those games.

I love the playoffs more than anything, but absolutely hate how I can never plan anything around life/work due to not knowing each round's schedule until 1-2 days beforehand.

Simmons also got to spend a year training and around the team. I don’t care if he didn’t play - that’s valuable experience to lean away from the rookie wall that other players don’t have.

That's like saying if you played in a power conference, or abroad, or in the G league you're not really a rookie. I don't buy that argument at all. Still a rookie even if things play out in a way that help you be a better one. Still the best rookie no matter the circumstances.

i mean, it isn't haha. it's like saying you were on a nba roster for an extra season, when everyone else in the class that you're categorized in was overseas or in college.

  25. But there are very different versions of where you play basketball and what it can do to help or hurt your rookie year. Playing at a big professional school helps. Brandon Jennings "rookie of the month" awards were probably bolstered by his decision to play abroad. Still a rookie when it's your first year in the NBA, regardless of what the previous year did to help/hurt your ability to play once you can. The award is who is the best rookie, not about what you did the year before and where. You don't get more points for coming from high-school and being great if there's another rookie that's better ... he was hurt, couldn't play, this is his rookie season and he's been incredible. (He shouldn't have had to play in college anyway.)
