Loneliness is real fuckin good but I'm kind of surprised at the unanimous positive reaction, even from people who don't like the album. The rest of the album fits in with the sound that Loneliness is doing, albeit Loneliness is a real high quality version that I do wish made it on the album proper.

As far as I am concerned, if I have the bonus tracks on the CD, that is the album proper.

Could see why these tracks weren't on the album. I think it's the fact that they wanted to intentionally distance themselves from their previous sound.

Also it feels so strange that there's bsides to an uo album, they haven't done this since TOCS.

...I don't get this stance at all. why would you force yourself to listen to a track order you dislike instead of making one that suits you better? isn't maximising your own enjoyment of an album like, the only priority while listening to music?

Okay so Bloodlust and Hold Your Breath.... CLASSIC underoath right there! Album is rad in my opinion, really dig all the drum sounds going on

No "Wake Me"? This is already superior. That's where I started skimming the rest of the tracks. What a ridiculous song. Now I just need to hunt down Loneliness.

Dope album. Super enjoyable listen imo, I've been running it back for days

Yeah, I've had the album for a week from an official promo. More than enough time and listens to conclusively determine the songs I think are garbage.

Hm. Apparently I've lost track of my old AP account (its been a long while of lurking since the switch) but I had to finally re-sign up because this is the only place the album is REALLY being discussed. My quick 2 cents:

I'm super stoked the dudes are back together playing music. I'm happy that they are happy, and that Spencer has found his way out of the church and the destructive things it was doing to him.

But damn, I really dislike this album. It's not bad, it's just really, really not the underoath I've been jamming all these years. It's no hyperbole when people are talking about radio-friendly, "cash grab" qualities: These soaring, sing-along choruses and straightforward song structures just feel too polished and generic to be the band I've loved for over a decade. It's funny, reading all the interviews and seeing Spencer talk about not living under the pressure of whether or not a song is "Underoath enough" and then listening to it and going "yeah, yeah there's very little underoath about this album, so you did it?

Though unrealistic, I wish they would have recorded this under another name, especially since I think it's quite a bit more Sleepwave than it is modern UO (or any version of UO, anyway). The croony vocals. The total apprehension to do anything that resembles the genre they mastered. So much of this album sounds like what I think Puddle of Mudd would be releasing if they were still around ("I let it happen agaiiiin, I failed myseeeelf, I failed my friiiiiiiends"....oof) .

Anyway. That's a lot of hyperbole that I'm sure will trigger some folks. Like I said, I'm glad they're making music. But these two listen-throughs are probably all they're getting out of me. Disambiguation was a perfect swan song, and I wish they would have just let it be.

EDIT: Spencer's vocals in the verses of I Gave Up sound like Supernatural-era DC Talk. Damn, I was going crazy trying to put my finger on it.

Checking out the Lead Singer Syndrome episode now and it's a very interesting listen!

Spencer discusses how they didn't wanna make another by the numbers Underoath record and about how they wouldn't have been happy with that since their musical tastes have changed. He also talks about everyone in the band enjoying the songs which is a first in a long time. I'm glad that they made the record that they wanted to and that they are in such a good space as a band and as people.

    I do not exist.

The album is surprisingly addictive. I keep coming back even though there’s plenty that isn’t my cup of tea (in particular, some of Spencer’s clean vocals and boring choruses).

Overall, I like it more with each listen.

I definitely hear the Linkin Park comparisons on some of the more mainstream tracks that others mentioned.

Does anyone else get a Dead Poetic vibe from the album opener? That might just be me being obscure. It’s still a classic Underoath opener though and possibly my fav track at this point!

Spencer saying he wants to make an album that pisses people off makes me like this thing more now lol because it's happening all over the internet.

Any criticism is fair but the silliest and most pointless criticism though is people saying "it's gonna lose old fans" as if any one person can speak for everyone.
