Didn't we have a discussion of posting a list of essential movies for new posters/fans in the OP? Essentially we're just narrowing down what we want. Similar to a poll thread maybe.

not sure that these are my ten favorite horror films, but probably are the ten i'd tell someone to watch if they wanted to get more into horror:

    Rosemary's Baby
    Suspiria
    The Evil Dead
    Maniac Cop
    Black Christmas (1974)
    The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
    Dead Ringers
    The Thing
    Trouble Every Day
    Possession

Gonna highly suggest Slasher on Netflix. Just watched the whole thing tonight. Really great horror/thriller anthology. It reminded me a lot of Scream with some pretty brutal deaths in there.

  5. I'll just list my personal favs. Tried to keep it diverse, otherwise at least 3 of 'em would be Carpenter movies. Also, I know it's supposed to be top 10 but.. I rebel.

    1. The Thing
    2. The Shining
    3. Martyrs
    4. Evil Dead 1 & 2
    5. Shaun of the Dead
    6. The Conjuring
    7. [REC] (also love 2 & 3)
    8. I Saw the Devil
    9. Re-Animator
    10. A Nightmare on Elm Street: Dream Warriors
    11. The Fly

Obligatory classics/essentials I enjoy: TCM, Elm Street, Halloween, The Exorcist, Alien, Psycho, Rosemary's Baby

Classics I've yet to see: Repulsion, DotD, NotLD, American Werewolf in London, Nosferatu, and probably some others.

Some other favs that don't get mentioned as much: Prince of Darkness, Triangle (2009), The Descent, Event Horizon, Pontypool, Tucker and Dale vs Evil, Session 9, Lake Mungo.

Watched "Unfriended" tonight. The conceit actually worked better than I thought it would, but unfortunately it just wasn't scary.

Not a personal top list, but essentials imo:
The Shining: arguably the most well made horror film of all time.
The Exorcist: Top contender to The Shining
    Halloween: essential slasher
Alien: SciFi horror (beats out The Thing for me)
Paranormal Activity: polarizing film and not the original found footage, but let's be real that this film is what actually launched the sub genre into what it is today.
    Cabinet of Dr Caligari:silent film
    Martyrs: French foreign
The Audition: Asian horror (list will be too long if I break down each country... Which I regret because I'm leaving off so many greats)
    The Orphanage: Spanish horror
    Dead Alive: Australian horror
Shaun of the Dead: horror comedy
The Fly: body horror. almost picked videodrome, But any Croenenberg would do
    The Stranger: Home Invasion
Dawn of the Dead: zombie film
American Werewolf in London: werewolf film
Let the Right One In: vampire film
    Rosemary's Baby: 60's
    Texas Chainsaw Massacre: 70's
    Hellraiser: 80's
Scream: 90's, but I think this film is bet revisited after becoming familiar with the genre.
    28 Days Later: 00's
    It Follows: 10's

Fuck this is already getting way too long...

yeah it was actually a pretty thoughtful implementation of technology iirc, where you could actually see hesitation or dishonesty by what characters did with their screens. neat, but the movie was a little half baked in general otherwise i think.

    I'm Back.

Watched The Boy and a little movie called They're Watching over the weekend.

The Boy was decent enough, nothing special.

They're Watching, on the other hand is pretty goddamn nuts. It's one of those "nothing happens until the last 15 minutes" type of movies, but it's somewhat of a comedy so I'll give it a pass. But damn, when the shit hits the fan at the end, it's some of the weirdest and batshit stuff I've seen in a while.

  14. Just read that The Faculty is leaving Netflix next month. Never seen it, gonna try to watch it this week.

Also, apparently this film, which screened at Cannes, was directed by a 16-year old.

    I'm Back.

Anyone seen The Other Side of The Door? Sounds EXACTLY like Wake Wood.

After her young son is killed in a tragic accident, a woman learns of a ritual which will bring him back to say goodbye, but when she disobeys a sacred warning, she upsets the balance between life and death.

The parents of a girl who was killed by a savage dog are granted the opportunity to spend three days with their deceased daughter.

Those are the plots of both movies...one of which shares more details than the other, but those details exist in both movies.

    I'm Back.

I was going to watch it until I realized that Lori from TWD is in it, and I've already seen Wake Wood, so no thanks.

Curious to see What We Become.

  21. The trailer for The Other Side of the Door did nothing for me.

I watched The Martyrs remake the other day. Felt like an exact remake of the original up until it takes a new direction, which I'm all for, but the movie wasn't that great. Didn't expect much, but I loved the original so much I was curious.

Alright, time for a little bit of what the fuck.

There is a flick coming out called Red Christmas (2016), Australian flick about some bad shit going down on Christmas night, trailer below.

But when searching for that, I found another Red Christmas (2014), and holy hell I want to see this and here is the trailer.

  23. 2016 Red Christmas could be good. I liked the trailer. The 2014 one looks ridiculous lol. Kinda reminds me of The Loved Ones.
