Purevolume to Shut Down

This article has been imported from chorus.fm for discussion. All of the forum rules still apply.

Purevolume has announced they are shutting down the website on April 30th. Damn, the end of a very specific era in our little music scene.

Wow. Didn't know it was still a thing. I remember discovering so many new bands back in the day on that site.

  3. I was 12 or 13 when I was working on starting a music review site with the name sound volume right around the time PV was coming up. Unborn media found me so annoying that they bought the domain and design off of me just to shut me up for $250 and I thought it was great.

Used to use Pure Volume all the time back in the 2002-2004 era. Honestly had no clue it was still running.

That’s a name I haven’t heard for a long time. Spent so much time dicking around on this site in high school I never actually learned CISCO or intro to Visual Basic or accounting..lol

Daaaamn I just looked up my old band on there and we had over 20 plays today somehow. I would've been stoked on that back in 2003.

I still deeply miss turntable.fm. I do realize this post is off topic.

It's not exactly the same thing, but Discord (a Group Chat app/website) has a built in feature where a group of people can listen to Spotify together. I believe others have built bots for it that allow YouTube sharing similar to TurnTable

Your welcome! I'm thinking of maybe making a server on it for Chorus members. I'll shoot out the link later today if I get around to it.

Me and some friends were talking about purevolume the other day. We were surprised to see it was still there. RIP, I discovered a lot of good (and some truly awful, but hilarious) bands there.

Daphne Loves Derby kicked off a lot of their hype from lots of plays on this service. That's what I remember most about it.

Damn I thought this happened years ago. This prompted me to check out my friends old band on there and somehow they have 6 plays today lol, respect.

Be kind; everyone is on their own journey.

Wouldn't be who I am or have the musical taste I have today without them...purevolume, absolutepunk, and drive thru records were 90% of my internet youth...the rest was AOL Sessions lol

I forgot all about Purevolume but I loved it back in the day...would always discover bands or stream music on it in the mid2000s. This is sad
