i forget if i've ranted about it before, but FC2 is the FC game we deserve. the (relative) realism, harshness of the environment, high difficulty, fire dynamics, bleak storytelling (if featuring enemies that are far less charismatic and thus viral than future installments) all evidence terrific world-building through which a critique of neocolonial violence can be told. unfortunately, it's so unpalatable that, i assume, its profits pale in comparison to the rest of the series, as it's clear ubisoft has found what makes them the most money and are sticking with that formula. 2 is, semi-understandably, not what gamers are looking for. but fuck, what i wouldn't give for a remake of it that stays true to its gameplay mechanics. that, to me, is far more engaging than the way the series has gone (although true to form i'm sure i'll get around to the rest of them eventually... it's been a minute since i played 3 and that was the last i really checked in).

or, even not a remake. i might just go replay it. i would also be curious to play future fc games with fewer in-game enhancements enabled, although that won't make up for what i regard as a subpar narrative.

I don't have anything to say - I haven't played 2 so I can't comment on it. And yet, I don't doubt its excellence.


I just think it's funny to complain about far cry 5's interface only to respond to the fact that you can customize it however you want with "doesn't matter, game wasn't built for it, it's just an option." Sounds like arguing for the sake of arguing at this point.

 

5's interface might not be perfect but 2's is straight up fugly.

I dig the "realism" 2 brought with the map and everything but 3-5 have still been a lot of fun.

 

Far cry has always been arcade-like, 2 was the abnormally.

but yeah like i said, i think the other games are probably a lot more fun and i think it makes perfect sense that gamers and ubisoft both prefer it.

Far Cry 2's interface consists of an ammo counter that fades out and crosshairs. That's it. If you think it's fugly, then so is every single Far Cry game because they also have ammo counters and crosshairs.

 

Tried quoting you in my other post but it wasn't showing up for whatever reason.

Anyway, the point is, the after effects of building the game for an extremely intrusive interface still effects how the game plays when you disable much of said interface. It's not as big of a deal as say Far Cry 3 and 4(seriously, playing those games with a disabled interface is almost impossible), but it's still an issue.

 

It's been like two weeks since I last played Smite and I am so much happier now.

It's even better when I hear how HiRez continues to ignore console versions and they keep getting worse.

We all knew it was after the Amazon listing, it was by Ubisoft themselves so no way it wasn't real.

I bet it'll be spring 2019.

 

I'm thinking SC or The Division 2 will be Nov or Dec, then the other spring.

 

If Clint Hocking is working on the new Splinter Cell, I will flip the fuck out.

 

He'd better be.

 

He hasn't gotten a game out the door in 10 years, which is a shame considering how forward thinking he is. I remember seeing he re-joined Ubisoft a few years ago. Just looked it up to verify and he specifically joined Ubisoft Toronto, the development team that made the last Splinter Cell. Bruh, it might be happening. Fingers crossed.

 

Is it normal to not be super into Assassins Creed Origins from the beginning? It's getting kind interesting now but I just got to Alexandria

I usually love every AC game though, even the ones people don't like

The remastered Sypro graphics look great. As with all older games though I hope the gameplay holds up to make them as enjoyable as I remember.
