It makes sense why someone like Kacey would appeal to you. The LP—her breakthrough, Same Trailer, Different Park—tossed a whole slew of country conventions in the garbage disposal with an “I don’t give a fuck” smile. Musgraves sounded sarcastic, but not disrespectful. Jaded, but not overly cynical. Instead of praising hometowns like most of her contemporaries, she painted them as havens for close-minded, philandering burnouts. Instead of steering well-clear of anything resembling a progressive political message, she sang about kissing lots of boys…or kissing lots of girls, if that’s what you’re into. These are all my words. I definitely did not copy and paste them.

 

There are some solid songs on this. I don’t care for the poppier sounding stuff. I think songs like Space Cowboy are where she excels the most.

 

Yeah Space Cowboy is pretty crushing for me personally everytime I hear it

This is lovely. I'd never heard of Kacey before seeing hype for this album on here. Her voice is just beautiful and soothing, and the lyrics are hopeful, youthful and relatable. I've been in a long distance relationship for two years and some of the love songs here make me picture a snapshot of what our future could look like - and the future we want is wonderful, so thinking of something so special while listening to this album makes me smile every time

 

I like this a lot but I don't think I'm in love with it as most people. I need to give it more listens, but some tracks are a bit too same-y for me. Maybe over time they'll grow. I don't dislike anything on it, though.

The end of High Horse with the little guitar line kind of reminds me of if Told You So (Paramore) was done as a country song and I don't know if there's really something there or if I've just lost it

 

Pretty sure it'a a banjo, too, which is even more badass.

 

So much going on here musically. Fucking love it.

 

Yea that makes more sense, I thought it didn't sound exactly like a guitar haha I'm not good at the difference between my string instruments.

 

Space Cowboy; Oh, What A World; Butterflies; and Golden Hour are my favorites.
I’m liking this a lot more than her other two albums, but they’re still good.

 

I like that these two songs have basically the same concept:

Listened to this on a whim without ever having listened to her before. That was a great choice. This record is so fucking good, I’m hooked. Early favorites are Slow Burn, Butterflies, Space Cowboy, and High Horse. Gonna listen to this shit all day.

Can't choose a favorite on this thing yet. Just solid front to back.

 

Excited about all the new fans this album seems to be getting her!

 

90 on metacritic. 8.8 user score. This is universally loved, as it should be.

 

I think it will be between this and Sister Cities at the end of the year for me.
