I didn't even listen to any music today because it wouldn't fill the void of what was supposed to be this album. Still can't believe my wifi was broken this morning and I couldn't download.... Work has been so slow today too so it would have been perfect.

i mean these are two great records but how can either of these stack up to one that's been a classic influential record for nearly 20 years now?!?!?!

But do you love it because you actually love it? Sometimes I think I love an album because I feel that I'm supposed to or that I want to. If that makes sense. Hard to tell in less than 24 hours like you said.

i know exactly what you mean. and not to like, put myself on a pedestal, i hope this doesnt come off the wrong way. but i feel like im past the point of my life where i convince myself i like certain music. Brand New is my favorite band ever, i will openly admit, i do no enjoy the new song. Mene is okay, not incredible.

again, im hesitant to give too much of my thoughts right now. maybe in a couple weeks or month i will do a big write up. but its because like someone said on the previous page, i want to be able to talk about this album eloquently. where as right now all i can say - with 100% sincerity - i cant recall every feeling emotionally what i feel towards this album, with any other album ever, in this short of time. there is a lot that goes behind that statement, that i will dive more into in future posts. now, im saying that and i stand behind that; however, i am not trying to tell people "oh yeah this is my favorite album ever" / "this is in my top 10 albums of all time"... i dont know that, how could i? again, ive been listening to this record for less than 24 hours (ive listened to it 7 or 8 times lol). all im saying is right now, in this moment this album is really special to me. As for the future, ill let all of that unravel on its own. what this album will mean to me in 2 years, if it still matters at all, doesnt matter in the slightest right now. i know it means something to me right now.

I feel this way too. It used to be that if I didn't care for an album right away, I'd keep trying over and over again to make it click as a favorite. Nowadays, I can't recall the last time where a favorite album of mine wasn't something I heard and said "Oh shit, I love this" on first list. There are times when I'll listen to an album and not really like it on first listen, only to revisit it a few days, weeks, or months later and enjoy it a lot more. But I can pretty much always tell right away what is going to be a favorite.

You owe me a Sausage McMuffin

Listened through twice today. It's a great record, but what's holding it back from being an outstanding AOTY type record is those first 4 songs. Man, I just can't see myself coming back to any of them, unless I'm listening top to bottom. It's a shame, because the rest of this is so fucking good. If I'd never heard of The Hotelier before and wanted to give them a chance, not sure I'd have made it to track 5 to know what I'm missing.

Not to sound unhappy with it or anything, just a bizarre start to an otherwise great album.

    Someday I’ll find me Prestigious

This is a good way to approach it.

I told people for a while that I loved Daisy. In reality, I didn't know how I felt about it for a few years after it was out.

I told people I loved it because it was Brand New. TDAG had such a humongous influence on me and my taste in music. They could do no wrong in my mind, like Pixar and Valve (both of which have had a dud since).

I couldn't honestly look at the record until it had been out for a few years, and only then could I say that I did actually love it.

I see a lot of reactions to The Hotelier that remind me of how my fandom of Brand New manifested itself over the years.

You gotta let albums sink in and settle (like a scar, heh), they need to gestate and grow with many listens. Those are the best albums for me.

I don't think The Hotelier will grab me, but I'll keep giving them a shot, because I enjoy the music just enough to give it that chance.

The back half of this record is absolutely stunning. Everything from Two Deliverances on is damn near perfect, but that run from Soft Animal to End of Reel might be the best run an emo band has ever made.

I'm going to disagree with everyone and say that the tracks 1-4 are great. The whole thing is great.

Agreed. And then there are always pleasant surprises for me that i enjoy on the first few spins, but im not going crazy over, that eventually im sitting there and realize "man, i actually love this record"... this was Pinegrove's Cardinal for me.
keep at it my dude :)
hey easy on the "everyones" i love the front half haha

This is a good post. Sometimes for people in these threads talking about how much they love a new album, I start to wonder "well, was there ever any realistic possibility that you wouldn't be saying that right now?"

This isn't meant for Kennedy, as I read his post above and it makes a lot of sense. Just something I start to think about albums that are hyped like this.

Haha, man, I'm nearly the complete opposite.

I don't think about this album in terms of sections, but Goodness pt. 2 and Piano Player do happen to be my two least favorite songs on here.
