The country purists always hated Taylor Swift, though. They like Kacey.

This will probably be my most played song of the year by the time this record is out. Infectious.

if y’all know what’s good for y’all y’all’ll listen to the new Courtney Marie Andrews record that came out today to whet y’all’s appetite until next week. It’s incredible and not all too far removed from someone like Kacey

She used to tour with Jimmy Eat world, invented-era

I endorse this. Courtney sings all the female backing vocals on Invented.

I've only come by Kacey Musgraves songs once or twice before, but I just want to say "High Horse" is absolutely unreal.

I am steadfastly not listening to any songs from this until I get a completely virgin first listen.. But the descriptions of this are making it toooooouuuuuugh.

this production sounds immaculate. Harmonies are so on point. Also, using an acoustic guitar in the verses for basically a bass line is an awesome move, and that banjo that comes in at the very end where normally a guitar solo would come in... man this song blows me away.

I feel like country music is so out of touch with how the rest of the music in the world works. No other genre still equates radio play to success the way it does. Also, I would say something is original if you have to go back 40 years to find similar sounding stuff.

It's bizarre, because there are the people who equate country radio play to success, but there are also guys like this who bristle at any remotely non-country influences creeping into the music country artists make. Pop, rock, rap, EDM, soul, R&B, disco, even Americana. They reject country radio, but they also reject artists' right to evolve, explore, and experiment. This dude and his acolytes would also tell you that Stapleton, Sturgill, and Isbell aren't making "real country."

TIL: I don't like "real country"

Most of the stuff I like the most is bucking tradition in some way or another. Even some of the stuff that this dude endorses as "real country," like Turnpike Troubadours or Tyler Childers, really doesn't feel all that traditional to me.

Ha, never thought about it that way, but this is an apt comparison.

It’s a shame. I feel like this guy used to be a champion for under the radar stuff more than a mainstream hating contrarian. Most of his posts used to be reviews of unheralded artists. Now, that’s maybe 10% of what he writes and most of it his hating on pop country or talking about how genre boundaries need to be respected.
