  1. Weird to post something like this without either a) saying who it is, b) telling me wtf is going on privately. Especially if they've been on the podcast "recently" (which hasn't even had an episode in like 2 months), since I clearly have no idea what this is reference to and there's only been like four different people on the podcast in the last year. These kinds of hinted at things don't help anyone, it only fosters speculation and gossip.

Why is it not an exponentially more important point to dig for truth?

I do not do assumptions. That is not a fault.

I think it’s important to remember that statistically, it’s unlikely that victims who come forward are lying. Multiple studies in multiple countries confirm this. Ask yourself why your refusal to “make assumptions” extends to alleged criminals but not alleged victims. Is it because of a quest for truth, or a quest to absolve artists and people we like?

When you’ve spent so much time studying the rape epidemic and the abuse that many suffer at the hands of predatory men, it stops being an “assumption” of guilt. It’s a smart choice based on logic, facts, and an understanding of world history.

This link doesn't seem to work, but I saw that last night and thought it was very interesting. Reddit is often awful about anything consent related, but that thread didn't seem to have as much excusing for inappropriate behavior. Need to go through it again more carefully and see if anything sticks out.

Also hasn't Big Boi done a lot of terrible things in the past too? I have a vague association of him being not worth supporting while Andre is great.

Only thing I can think of is a lyric or two questioning the allegations about Bill Cosby.

Basically something mentioning members of Of Mice And Men (Austin), Dance Gavin Dance (Johnny) and Of Machines and Tides of Man knowingly sleeping with underage girls.

Also some stuff about a pop-punk band and one about Brendon Urie.

Interesting, I hadn't seen those last time I checked. Do you still have the link? I can't find it in the subreddit for some reason.

I really like this, but giving examples of other works to listen to is always going to kind of miss the point about loving certain bands/musicians. It’s not just a sound or an idea that matters to people, it’s the specific songs/albums/voice that holds all the memory and power. It’s always good to be trying to find new music with meaning and to create new memories that aren’t tied to abusers, but nothing can take the place of what is lost if it was something that really affected you.

This was my only disagreement with the article. It’s a good read, but you’re right, unfortunately a band that sounds similar isn’t necessarily going to be an ample replacement on that basis alone.

A Lil Dicky collab with Chris Brown just came up on my recommended youtube videos and it made me so mad.

It drives me nuts to still constantly seeing headlines about people working with these two in particular. First blackish inexplicably gives Chris Brown a guest star spot and then Travis Barker working with XXX.

(Even today Cate Balnchett was saying she had no idea about accusations against Woody Allen when she chose to work with him. Obviously not music related but in the same vein and it still makes me want to pull my hair out)

probably. timeline seems right. "funny" how the stereogum article just mentions all the other reasons that band was problematic without knowing the actual reason why
