Check out their band thread and recent album thread on here, plus the accountability thread. There's lots of info. Not JL bad, but enough for me to not want to support them in any way.

I still dont really like the artwork for the new Animal Flag record. Don't understand why its so grainy but its clearly what they were going for.

I almost went for the How I Waited 7 inch Manchester posted in their store yesterday but decided not to because after shipping and exchange rate it added up fast.

Ive basically accepted at this point that i will never be paying less than $35-40 for stuff to Canada which is so much higher than stuff to the States but wtv it is what it is. @Kennedy amirite??

Ok, here's the moment everyone (@JediMasterKevo182 and @Kingjohn_654 really) has been waiting for!

I listened to Northstar's 2004 release Pollyanna this morning and wrote my thoughts on my album as I listened.

    -------------------------------

    For Members Only

I can see why @JediMasterKevo182 likes Northstar! I hear some Taking Back Sunday similarities - primarily with how they do the duel vocals. This was a pretty solid opening track and had a pretty catchy chorus. I liked the guitars toward the end of the song quite a bit too.

    Pollyanna
I really enjoyed this song! I wish that I would've known about this album back in 2004 because I'm sure it would have been in my regular rotation. The vocals are solid and I thought the lyrics for this track were pretty good. Nothing against For Members Only, but I liked this song quite a bit more. I've only heard 2 Northstar songs to this point, but I'd say that this track would be a good introductory track for people checking out this band.

    American Living
Apple Music calls this track American Dream, so it's a good thing that I'm thorough and read their Wikipedia page too. This song started off a bit slower but picked up pretty quickly. There wasn't a ton in this track that stood out to me. The vocals were the highlight for me. Not a bad song by any means, but it didn't grab me the way that the previous song did.

    The Pornographer's Daughter
Apple Music calls this track The Pornographer's Dream, so again, it's a good thing that I'm thorough! I thought it was a little odd that back-to-back tracks had the word "Dream" in them and here it turns out that neither of them do. I'm definitely getting a TBS vibe during the verses. The backing vocals during the choruses add a little bit of depth to the song. Lyrically, this was a pretty strong track as well. The bridge's repetition is something that I'm sure will find its way into my head at various times over the course of the next week or two. I don't really like how the track faded out over the past 30 or so seconds, but that's a pretty minor complaint. Overall, I'd say this is my second favorite song on the album to this point.

    Like A.M. Radio
This song does not sound like AM Radio (the Everclear song) but that's ok. I'm hearing some more TBS similarities. They are definitely not a carbon copy of TBS (or maybe I should say that TBS are definitely not a carbon copy of Northstar) but the similarities are undeniable. I'd imagine that fans of Taking Back Sunday (primarily the Tell All Your Friends & Where You Want To Be era) would really enjoy this album. I'm a fan of both of those albums so this is right up my alley. Similar to American Living, there wasn't much that stood out on this track for me, at least not on this first listen. It's a solid, catchy song but didn't do much to differentiate itself from the rest of the album (in my opinion, obviously).

    The Accident Underwater
This song was a welcome change of pace as it's definitely the slowest track on the album to this point. It makes sense placing it directly in the middle of the album! It's about 4 and a half minutes long and the song really picks up in the last 40 or so seconds. A solid track that shows that Northstar is definitely capable of making a good slow song. One other thing I'll say about this album to this point - most of the tracks have been right around the 4 minute mark (which isn't anything too out of the ordinary) but there hasn't been one moment yet where I've felt like the song has been dragging. I guess I complained about the way that The Pornographer's Daughter ended, but it was more about me not liking how songs fade out than anything.

    Two Zero Two
This sound unexpectedly starts out very slow with only acoustic guitar in the background with soft singing over it. And that's how it goes for the remainder of the song. A nice acoustic ballad, but I think that placing it somewhere else in the tracklist would have been beneficial. It's just a bit odd to put the two slowest tracks to this point back-to-back.

    To My Better Angel
Ok, this song is a faster one right off the bat. This track really benefits from coming after the previous two slower tracks and it's one of my favorite's so far on the album - right behind Pollyanna and The Pornographer's Daughter. The final 25 seconds of this song in particular are a blast. I enjoyed the lyrics on this one a good bit too.

    Between Horns And Halos
Another song that wastes no time and gets into it right from the first note of the song. The song title reminds me of Between Angels And Insects by Papa Roach (you know you enjoy some Papa Roach - don't lie!). This song, particularly the chorus, give me some Alkaline Trio vibes. I think it's probably because of the vocal delivery.

    Digital Me
At under 3 minutes, this is the shortest track on the album. This song didn't do a lot for me, to be honest. Not a bad song (I haven't heard a bad song on this album yet, and I don't expect to!) but nothing that really grabs me either. Time for me to wrap this thing up!

    Rocket City
This is a good song to wrap the album up with. It's a pretty mid-tempo track for them and I liked the lyrics a lot on this one. This is toward the top of the album for me!

    -------------------------------

As I mentioned above, if you're a fan of Taking Back Sunday (particularly the Tell All Your Friends & Where You Want To Be era) definitely consider checking this out!

My favorite tracks overall were Pollyanna, The Pornographer's Daughter, To My Better Angel, and Rocket City.

Thus completes my contractual obligation with @JediMasterKevo182 and he still needs to listen to mewithoutYou's most recent album Pale Horses to hold up his end of the deal!
