  1. oh no I agree with you haha. not really a fair comparison. I do like the opener...I think a lot because of the way it goes into "DVP."

speaking of celebration rock, are japandroids still active?

I think the CR comparisons come from the fact that it's just a huge blast of energy. But these are essentially "I feel like shit so let's go crazy!" songs, where CR was all positive energy. They have a very different tone, even if the amount of pure adrenaline they produce is similar.

Huh. I found both to be lyrically dreadful.

Those two songs made me turn this off and go and listen to Goodness again before coming back to finish the record. Haha

i don't get how the first song lyrically is bad, though? dudes were on edge with each other and almost broke up, i feel that song is an incredibly good depiction of that situation and how they were feeling in it

i mean, there's no way to make a situation like that more nuanced and subtle, and that's not what this band is. they're loud, forward, and don't give a fuck

they're a band that hates recording and only likes touring, but won't tour when there's no new material. here's an interview that came out before celebration rock that'll probably clear up the current situation

Way too on the nose for me. Maybe it's the meta nature of the songwriting, but having lyrics about how the band hated each other and made each other "wanna vomit" or gouge out their own eyes with a power drill or whatever made it feel like a joke song that was trying too hard to be clever. I also disagree that there's not a way to make that subject matter more nuanced and interesting, though after listening to the album, I get that they're not that band.

I don't want to turn this thread negative, though. If people dig this, more power to them.

This album didn't really bother me with lyrics like that, though "If This Tour Doesn't Kill You, I Will" is one of my least favorite songs here. Still like the title of the song however.

Speaking of on the nose lyricism that did bother me though, that Tiny Moving Parts album was painful for me to listen to in that regard.

The Coast kind of feels like the Yukon of this album to me. Love it

I guess I should thank you guys for comparing this to Celebration Rock though, because I listened to that on my run today and did three miles in four songs and it was fucking awesome. Perfect running album.

spun this once, think it's possibly better than the self-titled. the transition from "If This Tour Doesn't Kill You" to "DVP" is massive. will definitely enjoy and appreciate it more when I have it in better quality and volume than that stream

Old Wounds was my least favorite when I first listened to this, but man it's grown on me in a big way.

Whole album just puts a huge smile on my face, very happy with this.

I just realised I love My Life Is Over And I Couldn't Be Happier so much because the riff sounds a lot like something from a bunch of my mate's band, The New Tusk haha
