I feel the same, but I'm hoping it'll grow on me a lot.

Then again, I'm never in love with the super AP/Chorus hyped albums, so my taste is probably just a bit shifted.

its just that it ends with the snare hits exactly the way goodness pt 2 ends.. much like how dendron ends with the guitar part from introduction

Mine too, it's boring. I really like a few songs but I'm just not that stoked with this album. Whenever I listen in the future I'll be starting on track 5 and probably skipping Sun.

Grief is only love that’s got no place to go Supporter

I kinda wish this just started with Two Deliverances as the opener. From that track on I love this cd, but 1-4 I could do without. To me it doesn't seem to flow that well, there's a lot going on with the spoken word opening and then the instrumental song just a couple after. And I know some people like Piano Player but I think that might be my least favorite song on the album minus the spoken word intro and the instrumentals.

not sure how you could skip the first half of the record, I think sun makes you wait for the pay off but its worth it.. also I actually enjoy the sounds they use in the bridge before it explodes..

both are in 6/8 haha also pretty sure this is the only song on this record with that waltzy feel, there are a few in 3/4 but not quite with that classic hotelier waltz sound

First listen, slightly drunk lying on the floor of a Brooklyn apartment. Going surprisingly well, this album is so warm I'm finding it hard not to love.

I'm not necessarily a fan of every individual song here but I wouldn't change anything about the way it flows. Think about this as just one seamless 47 minute work. It wouldn't make sense to cut or reorder anything.

Yeah, I really don't get that. I'm sure there's a reason for it but I don't know what it is.

hah the thing is, i know when im fanboying... me fanboying is a lot worse than anything ive posted since being on chorus... i kid you not, one time on AP when i was like 17, people in a Brand New thread were listing their top 5 Brand New songs and i literally typed out every single Brand New song ever written in chronological order. im ashamed to admit that i was such an idiot, but hey i was 17 and whatever.
my love for this bands music is completely genuine and not me just being a crazy fan - i havnt felt this way about a record in the first day of listening to it in years. im not going to say (yet) that this is like my all time favorite record cause thats just dumb, ive listened to it 4 times. but i will say, i will be very surprised if this record hasnt turned into something special for me in a years time... we'll see though.

yes it feels like one giant piece of work, and i love that! it's an experience to listen to this record... but I feel like that is going to add to the longevity of it so much.. Home is my favorite record of all time, and in a couple of months I could see this beating it.. still WAY too early to tell but we will see

Because I don't really like Goodness, Piano Player or Sun, so I don't need 1-4 at all. And with what you're talking about on Sun, I just don't think it was done that well. A completely different song idea to start followed by a long quiet bridge followed by a long build up makes the ending feel anticlimactic (to me).

    goodnight thread, what a day.

"In the light of the day, stabilize and reset
and then burn in the image until I can't forget
and end ceaselessly speaking until Nothing is unsaid.
I don't know what I want what I want is where I've been.
In the night will rest you head into my hands
will you disrupt this pattern from starting again?
If I ask you for Nothing will Nothing there stand?
    I don't know what I want what I wants where I've been."

so you wouldn't even give those songs and those moments an opportunity to grow on you? I guess I feel that if I disliked songs that much I would probably give up on the record lol

Haha nah I won't give up on this album. I listened to those clips quite a bit while they lasted (not ideal, I know) and I listened to this stream twice and I still feel the same about it. Those three songs I don't like but the rest are pretty good. There are just little things throughout the album that bug me.

a burst and I'm awake now Supporter

I was originally planning on waiting until next week to listen to this given the amount of new music that came out today that I'm working my way through, but when my download dropped I found myself sitting alone in a hotel room with a beautiful view over a river, parklands and the bay and good pair of headphones and a few hours to kill, and figured I was in the right headspace to dive it.

My first impression is just, wow, I am absolutely floored by this album. I really love the life affirming theme/nature of it - tbh I struggled to listen to Home because it was just so emotionally heavy. It's hard to bring yourself to listen to something you know is going to wring you out and make you cry. As much as it is a wonderful piece of art, I feel I'm at a stage of my life where I want to focus my attention on having a positive mindset. Even though that's not always possible and it's great to have albums like Home there for you when you're feeling that way, it's not a place where I want to spend the majority of my time. IMO, I think it's really hard to make a happy, light, positive record that's artful and emotionally moving - I think this is one of the reasons why so many musicians instinctively gravitate towards sadder subject matter - but The Hotelier have absolutely nailed it here. Like Home, this record also has the potential to move me to tears, but they're tears of joy. It's an acknowledgement that we're living in a world that is beautiful and profound and that there's enough joy out there to outweigh the sadness if you open your arms and let it in. It's an absolutely incredible achievement to be able to capture that in less than an hour of music.

I haven't given it a lot of spins yet but what initially impresses me so much about this record in addition to what I've mentioned above is the flow of it. It gradually floats along and works up to these big points of emotional release that kick in at just the perfect moment (see: Soft Animal). I LOVE what they have done with the so-called 'interlude' tracks. From a production standpoint it sounds fucking amazing to my ears, perfectly captures the mood and the spirit of what they're trying to do. The little bits of white noise - crickets chirping etc - just perfect. The only thing it's possibly missing is the crackling of a campfire (maybe it is in there, I haven't picked up on it yet).

Sorry for the long stream of conscious rant, there's so much to unpack here - I haven't even begun to delve into the lyrics, and musically it's so dense and interesting. The great thing is I know I'm only going to grow to love this more as I spend time with it. I'm just so impressed. The hype was entirely justified.
