This is going to be a big issue for California due to the general negative response to the joke songs.

I'm just going to echo the sentiment that for blink, I tend to put album reviews and media responses aside and go with my gut. I think we all have things in our life that we love even though, objectively, they may not be that good...blink is on that list for me.

Yes. It look me years to figure out what was being said

  3. If YouTube likes are any indication of how fans are feeling, people haven't really been that turned off by the joke songs

The Hold Steady are great at dropping little references in their songs. I can't think of any off the top of my head, but when I catch them I always grin.

A thread should be started for people to share references. I always love reading about them.

Also, someone once tweeted at Leigton for dropping Counting Crows references in Lydia songs all the time and he responded that he was impressed by the fact that they caught them. I've never caught one.

I liked blink's nods to Nirvana.

Hope I am not too late to bring up another band/song that name drops other bands...the first song that came to mind for me was Simple Plan's song "Grow Up"

The average person will be indifferent to them at worst.

There's not enough bleeding hearts that are buying their albums to make a dent in sales

According to Wiki (I know, I know), the Japenese version of California has 4 bonus tracks:

    17. Boris the Animal
    18. Looking Back
    19. Up in the Attic
    20. We Are the End

No idea on the validity of this, so take it with a grain of salt unless we get some sort of confirmation.

I don't believe it in the slightest especially since they don't cite their sources on there but God that would be the coolest. (Also none of those sound like song titles they would have, except maybe Looking Back)

Tend to agree, but if real, they'd only be bonus tracks, so that might explain the odd titles. Plus, Skiba is a different character, so maybe he had some influence here. Impossible to say.

  15. haha and how many bands have a song called "I'm Sorry"? that doesn't mean anything. but still, until there is actual proof, i'll take this with a grain of salt.

bonus tracks will probably help people give "bohemian rhapsody" the okay, since it's not actually the last song on the album... at least to the people who have brought that up.

maybe there will be a Target exclusive version with a couple extra tracks. i hope so. i really want all the songs i can get...

I once had a dream that blink released their new album (before Take Off Your Pants and Jacket had a title) and the first track on the record was titled "Car". Ever since then, I've been waiting for them to name one their songs that.

Someone on YouTube has uploaded a bunch of previously rare full-sets from Warped '97:

Just thought I'd share the quote, I thought it was interesting because I didn't recognise the correlation. Not sure having a track called I'm Sorry is on the same level of likelihood as a song named Boris the Animal, not to mention having both the aforementioned and a track called Up in the Attic.
Nonetheless, from what I can see the tracks have also been removed from Wiki since posting.

The Hold Steady does it all the time from Weakerthans, to Dillinger four to weirdo ones like Krokus. In Mixtapes I did it often, and usually about the counting crows. Of course I have a counting crows tattoo across my ribs and they are my favorite band.

I'm sure it's fake too, but Up In The Attic is an album title by AAF, not a song.

This song from Brighter Brightest has blink and NFG in them.
"I used to drive around listening to blink .."
"I used to see NFG every summer when they came through town"
