Warped Tour 2018: The Final Cross-Country Trek Tour • Page 43

Discussion in 'Tour Forum' started by ALT/MSC/FAN, Mar 1, 2018.

  1. My friend is a massive LTJ fan, he's 16 now but I think he was like 13 when he got into them. I guess it's just a matter of taste when it comes to these legacy bands that aren't necessarily still mainstream (not like Green Day or Blink-182). I mean I got into New Found Glory when I was 14 (around when Resurrection came out), just because I liked their music. I think the reason kids that age don't always get into older bands is because they have larger back catalogs so it can be intimidating.

The same way i got into ltj when I was 13- you listen to johnny quest, you listen to all my friends are metalheads, you buy Anthem, and you see em live, jump into your first circle pit, get destroyed, then hooked for life.

Going to extend the deadline for Top 15 lists until 6 PM EST. I’ll post the final tally tonight at 8 PM EST.

i love when being curious about a pathway for a young kid into an older band that's not as omnipresent as they once were = This Guy Hates That Band

i remember seeing them tour with shit i dug like FYS and that introduced me to them, was curious if they still bring out young bands or if it's mostly just old guy shit now

Reel Big Fish and Less Than Jake are probably the easiest 90s Warped bands for a young Pop Punk fan to get into. The sound just fits imo

They also play every year at Warped so they get a lot of attention from the "scene" (they get played at Hot Topic and have AP articles)

I got into a band Zebrahead when I was 13 because they were on a Video Game soundtrack, then got into blink-182 because they played a few Germany shows together, and that got me into pop-punk.

Then got into Silverstein because a youtuber I liked covered them. From there on out, most bands I liked I got into from Youtube suggestions (Rarity, Hands Like Houses, Neck Deep) and bands my favorite bands were touring with.

TL;DR mainstream legacy bands are often what get kids into a genre, but they generally want to stay present with bands that are touring, putting out new music and have social media presence.

I owe Burnout Revenge and Tony Hawk's Underground 2/American Wasteland's soundtracks a LOT for my music taste.

Chel and THPS were crucial for my music development. And high school/teen movies which featured those bands. I found out about Sugar Ray because they were in Scooby-Doo haha.

Disney’s Extreme Skate got me into Reel Big Fish, Simple Plan and Allister.

NHL was also a huge factor. I remember hearing Anti-Flag and Cute Is What We Aim For on NHL 07, I believe.

If we're being honest I owe everything to MySpace, that's where I found All Time Low, The Maine, Mayday Parade, We The Kings and basically everyone in that scene. Obviously I expanded through opening bands and recommendations from friends but MySpace was really awesome for finding new music.

All of the THPS games, Aggressive Inline, and the NHL and Madden games, so influential.

Baseketball, in addition to the high school/college movies (American Pie 1 & 2, The New Guy, etc.) had a pretty solid soundtrack too.

    The intrusive whisper fascinates me

A lot of music in Guitar Hero and Rock Band introduced me to my main music tastes.

GH introduced me to Weezer, Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth, etc.

    I am forever grateful.
