Drew I was already expecting this to be my favorite TWY album but now I'm even more excited. Shit.

How's the production? Better than NCTH?

Hot take: If you actually try to tell me this record sounds worse than NCTH, you’re just wrong.

Based on the two singles it sounds like the album I was waiting for after suburbia. The genre bending leap of faith into a whole new sound with success

The Wonder Years: No Cities To Love

really cool interview that was posted. As much as I adore NCTH I kinda agree with Dan that it was a "3/4 step forward" instead of a full step forward. I'm sure that writers block was incredibly frustrating and I'm glad that the opposite seems to be true with this record where he was just bursting with ideas.

the story behind Raining In Kyoto broke my heart to read :( Dan I highly highly doubt you read this site but I know that feeling all too well and I hope you got some closure

Can you get us the audio for those stripped down performances? I’d be more than happy to donate to the cause of your choice.

It's definitely possible, but I think we should ride it out on youtube a bit before I start handing out files. I'm sure there's like an AI alien robot that can steal them from the internets though.

(Honestly one of my favorite shows we've ever done. I hadn't heard the strings on most of those songs until the matinee show and god damn.)

Totally understood, and I could probably fairly easily figure out how to rip them from YouTube, but if there were a way I could contribute to the band and/or a cause of your choice (while, admittedly selfishly, getting higher-quality versions of the audio) I’d prefer that.

But I also know and understand it’s not necessarily that simple.

  14. yeah I love it - it's your best record and I can't wait to see y'all play it live later this year

I am excited for this album, and like how much you seem to be loving it... but I just can't believe I will the same as none of the three released would make my top 10!

"We wanted to take one full step from ‘The Greatest Generation’ to ‘No Closer To Heaven’. I think, if I’m self-critical, we took three-quarters of one. In a lot of ways, we took a really bold step, and then in some ways, maybe just because I was so second guessing myself, we didn’t take the full step we needed to take. We held back a little bit.""

That's exactly how I feel about NCTH. I've said it before I think but yes, in some areas NCTH was a really striking progression while in others it really felt held back. Feels good to know that the band are very aware of that. With that and Drew's description I have no doubt this is 100% what it's been built up to be. So excited.

  19. the album opens and closes with two of the band's most powerful songs ever and they are both done in completely different styles - it's incredibly thrilling how well this album flows.

It Must Get Lonely could have been done by a band putting out their debut album on Merge Records.
