Seriously tho...exactly as someone here said guitars on Cali sound like plastic and I do like that album,it would be nice one off era,but that's it...give me some fresh sound and I think Bill could make it right...but Iam aware of his answer on this so...oh well

I really liked California and then the deluxe edition came out and I hated disc 2 so much that it almost spoiled the original version. Does that make any sense haha

I condensed the deluxe Cali to 15 songs and it's more deluxe than original Cali songs lol. Although I have Bottom Of The Ocean and Don't Mean Anything on there and want to drop those and add Teenage Satellites. So I think it tips back in OG Cali's favor

Don’t Mean Anything is one of the better Deluxe songs. The chorus is classic blink. You can hear ‘01/02 Tom singing that.

I posted this just a few pages ago actually

For whatever reason, it caused us to go back and look at that whole period in a different light. We were all collectively losing our minds when California came out, but once part II came out, we all started expressing our disappointment with the whole thing. It's really strange.

i tried to put my favorite cali and cali deluxe songs together until i realized that like half of the songs basically had the same guitar intro riff

There’s maybe 5 or 6 songs since the first reunion that I think are actually worthy of blink’s legacy. A lot of okay songs, not great not bad, and a few clunkers.

Edit: My personal list of standouts

    After Midnight
    Even If She Falls
    Bored To Death
    She’s Out of Her Mind
    Sober
Home Is Such a Lonely Place
    Left Alone

For me,every single song on Deluxe is better than Kings Of The Weekend

More or less how I feel.

    After Midnight, Kaleidoscope
When I Was Young, Dogs Eating Dogs
Cynical, Bored to Death, San Diego, Left Alone

The rest are okay. A lot of pretty good ones and a lot that I could pass on, but that's all of their albums for me.

Any further rumors on the tour with 311?

  16. I know I'll be able to get there if I start the song but thinking about it in my head right now, I couldn't hum that song if my life were on the line. A lot of CA is like that and I am NOT a CA hater. :(

Deluxe is bad but California is a fairly solid album. That said, I still put it somewhere between Cheshire and untitled (above that is dude ranch enema and toypaj).

  20. I think I might like California a LOT more if the guitar tones weren't so heavy on the high end, if there weren't multiple songs with the same guitar riff, and if the whoa's and na's were used even somewhat sparingly. Instead of having woah's and na's so dominant, I would have let the songs have some breathing room. "Kings of the Weekend" (while being a bad song) it's the only song that has an instrumental bridge, if I remember right, which is pretty ridiculous.

I feel like California was a good demo that they could have brought to a better producer to make into a much better album

And like I said, when it's just California, it's tolerable and you're able to look past it a little bit at least...but when they double the length of the album and all of those issues you just listed still dominate every song....it's a little too much.

I'd say the gap between 4 and 5 is really big too. I remember the enthusiasm when we found out Mark and Matt were just churning out songs but the remainder of California + deluxe is what you end up with...some songs are soo sloppy. Like your other post, letting some tracks have more breathing room would've gone far...that's why you need a better producer and more time. Like, as much as I don't care for untitled, the album had wonderful pacing within and between tracks. blink is capable of more, as fans it's fair for us to expect that of them.
