Trades don't count against compensatory formula, right? Someone was saying to expect the Pats to work recently cut/trades instead of true free agents since after losing Dion, Malcolm and Nate their gonna be weighted pretty favorably in the formula.

 

Good thing the secondaries he'll be playing against the most are just those scrubs on the Chargers and the Broncos

 

I'm not convinced teams think about comp picks when signing players.

 

I'm sure it factors in on some level. Where is debatable. But if you can get two guys who are relatively equal, and one hurts the formula and one doesn't, why wouldn't you go with the guy who doesn't? I'm not saying the Pats were like "Fuck Yeah we lost our best left tackle! That 3rd round pick is gonna be sweeeeeeet"

 

From someone who actually watched the Browns for 16 games: don't worry. He's not young, but McCourty was good last year. It's a one-year, cheap contract. Get young guys too, but this certainly helps their coverage.

 

You just have no idea how valuable that comp pick will be until draft time. If you have a chance to get a guy you want, you do it.

 

I agree. I wouldn't have it be a deciding factor. But I'm sure it weighs in. It def weighs in when establishing trade value for a guy.

 

Yeah, I think it's a relatively low-risk move. An established vet who will be hungry to win since his brother's jewelry box must be pissing him off but doesn't really do much to stop future plans.

While I don't think we should expect Wentz to play at the level he was at before his injury, anything close to it will still put him as one of the best in the league. He was so good last season.

Problem with Browns/Eagles thinking is the Madden mentality imo. Yeah Browns have talent all over the place and even more this year but with that talent last year they still couldn't win a game.
