I absolutely could not stand Motion City Soundtrack until My Dinosaur Life came out, something about that album clicked with me

As part of the ever-changing contract that I have with @JediMasterKevo182 I will now be listening to and reviewing the album Kuts by Matt Skiba and the Sekrets! (I don't think Matt Skiba uses spell check)

Matt Skiba is best known for his time in the band Alkaline Trio and I am very familiar with all of their material. However, I have not yet listened to this album, his second full-length album under the moniker Matt Skiba and the Sekrets. It was released in 2015.

    Let's get to it!

There are only 10 tracks here and Apple Music tells me that it's a total of 32 minutes, so this shouldn't be too tough!

    Lonely and Kold
These (intentional) typos may drive me crazy before all is said and done. There's no mistaking Skiba's vocals here - he has a pretty distinctive sound. I'm a fan of his vocals so there wasn't really much doubt in my mind that I'd enjoy this album. This song wouldn't feel terribly out of place on an Alkaline Trio album, but it's a little slower and not as "punk" as Alkaline Trio's tracks typically are. I thought the lyrics were pretty good here too and I liked their personal touch. Overall, a solid first track to set the tone for the album!

    She Wolf
No typos! This one has a really catchy chorus that I enjoyed quite a bit! This song could definitely be an Alkaline Trio track. I'd say that this one is about on par with Lonely and Kold for me. I'd say this album is 2/2 up to this point.

    Krazy
This is the slowest track on the album so far. Lyrically this track is about struggling without an important person in one's life ("I went off the rails without you" and "I went crazy without you"). All in all, a nice slower ballad type track, but it's my least favorite so far. Matt's vocals are the highlight for me so far, but the instrumentation has been really well done.

    She Said
This is not a cover of the classic Collective Soul song. This is, however,is the track where the album stopped being potential bathtime music. Lyrically, it reminds me a bit of earlier Alkaline Trio. This song is relatively fast (possibly the fastest on the album to this point) and it's quite a departure from the previous track. I liked the instrumentation in this track quite a bit.

I Just Killed to Say I Love You
This album is flying by. I have to say - I've kind of grown to appreciate shorter records more lately. The background music sounds a little 80s influenced. It's a pretty solid mid-tempo track that features some of Skiba's best singing on the album so far. It's nice sounding music with dark lyrics (which is certainly something that's an Alkaline Trio trademark)

I just called to wish you well
I just called to say goodbye
I saved a place for you in Hell
I'll see you down there when you die

This is the midway point of the album! I'm going to grab a bite to eat and I'll listen to the second half of the album after lunch. Also, I think it's a rule that I have to tag @broken22 in any Matt Skiba related post.

Also Saves the Day is great you guys are tripping but I can also understand why not everyone would be into them tbh. Idk Through Being Cool and Stay What You Are are classics. Daybreak is very underrated too.

When it comes to Pink Floyd tho I don't mind the lenght of their songs or albums at all some bands are just able to get away with it more than others imo

Yeah I just rarely have 77 uninterrupted minutes to listen to music.

I also love how the second to last song is called “Our Time Is Short” :sly:
