We reach for the longest shadow

Luke Schwartz plays bass. He's kind of the fill in bassist for every band in this scene, but he's been with Tigers Jaw as a touring member for a while now. Drummer is Teddy Roberts. Kind of the same as Luke, most notably toured with Fireworks the last 3 or so years of their existence, but I don't think he ever played on their records? Luke is hilarious on social media, I would give him a follow if you haven't already. He's a Birmingham boy like me though, so maybe I'm biased.

RFC had such a great YouTube page two/three years back. Such a good community feel.

I have extremely strong memories associated with those four songs. They perfectly encapsulate a time that's passed in my life. I can listen to them and still thoroughly enjoy them, but I remember what they gave me back then, and it's impossible to return to that now.

weird thing is i know a ton of people that love s/t, including people that didn't really get into much modern emo stuff, when i feel like back in the late 00s/early 10s i heard nothing about it, weirdly enough

when s/t came out i thought they were just another token pop punk band playing boring power chord songs... i was way wrong.

I checked them out because they were opening for Good Luck and The Sidekicks in 2010 and The Sun hit me super hard and they were incredible live and became one of my favs instantly

I get people only liking one era of the band, but I love everything they have done.

I'm all about the sing alongs, melodies and emotions of the new music, and the energy and fun and musicianship of the older material.

i just dont' get how these bands aren't more popular. why can't they get on big tours like with pearl jam or foo fighters and open for them?

hierarchy of bands mirrors the power structures of capitalism and as a result the majority do not thrive, esp if they're not a band of 4-5 old straight white dudes

The Story So Far are opening up for Coheed, so I guess anything is possible. (I know Coheed isn't as big as Pearl Jam)

coheed is my favorite band , and its nice to see their steady climb to a bigger audience. i just don't see
how tigers jaw and bands like balance and composure don't get more exposure

quality of band has very little to do with popularity, has more to do with what labels decide to push and money

I feel this is gets at part of the truth, but not all of it - as far as the music industry directly interacts with capitalism, absolutely, but on the DIY scale (where popularity tends to be emergent as well as manufactured), I feel like the distribution of popularity reflects our collective psyche including our relationship with pain, culturally formative experiences, and ofc what sorts of implicit biases we hold

i.e. marginalization in art happens not just because marginalized people are uniformly oppressed in all avenues of life under capitalism including monetary and social compensation for their art, but because their art is being released to the same humans who collectively perpetuate that system of marginalization due to shared internal biases (that are partly due to capitalism, but have taken on a life of their own)

(this is also why changing culture changes distribution of popularity even w/o changes to the explicit power structures of capitalism)

    back to gulfer
