Further Seems Forever- The Moon Is Down

    The Moon Is Down:

Nice intro track. There's some really cool effects in this song, and it does well to get you curious to what the album is going to be dealing you. The instruments are really good in this song, and the vocals are great; he has a silverstein/cartel/early tbs type voice and I like it.

    The Bradley:
This song was good. I liked the previous track better, I think, but this one kept the momentum going well enough. It has a very cool bridge to it, and musically its about to the par of the previous song. "Your voice is never audible but the anger in your words is breaking.." I like that line quite a bit, and the ending of the song is sick.

    Snowbirds and Townies
This song is actually a bit more restrained than the previous two tracks, and the drums are a bit more audible in this one. A mid tempo ballad almost, the lyrics in this one are probably the best the album has had in the past three tracks. "This Winter is lasting forever, at least for tonight. And I know that youre never leaving until youre right." is such a damn relatable line that I am sure plenty of us can associate it to a bad night of strife with a significant other or friend. I think this is my favorite of the tracks so far, even if the guitar on the past two tracks was a bit better.

    Monachetti:
This one opens with a very sick echoey voice, the music is subdued into the background and allowing the vocals to be the focal point of this song from the get go, until slowly building itself up behind the verses. I love that, its a sound that takes some work to pull off right and these guys did it really well. This song has potential to be one of the stand outs of the album. One thing I am noticing about this pant through the last three songs and this one, is that these guys are super earnest in their lyrics. These are raw, passionate songs with real lyrics that don't cut corners; and I can totally respect that. Also I have to say I love the outro of this one, that scream!

    Madison Prep:
This one was the first one that was kind of 'meh' to me. Don't get me wrong its a good song, and there are parts of this song where his vocals sound like Fred Mascherino, which I am 100% all for. But it was an average song, after the cool preceding songs it didn't hold up as well.

    New Year's Project:
This one is more of a softer ballad, though the pace does pick up halfway through it. I like this one a lot, its energetic despite its slower nature; it feels grander and more big than the songs before it on the album. It has lyrics that invoke emotion about desperately needing something, someone too; something I am always a fan of if done right within a song. Instrumentally this song is pretty dang on point too, the guitars are great, the drums are thumping, and there are some more layers to the music than the previous songs seemed to have. This is a good one, and a song I can return to easily.

    Just Until Sundown:
Another great song. This one is filled with everything I have pointed out before, great guitars and drums, vocals that invoke emotions, and just a strong and passionate song. Theres softer moments, and then theres these thunderous verses and choruses that are super catchy and will probably stuck in my head for a little while. I absolutely adore the whole theme of this song too, about wanting just one more day with someone you are going to have to be away from or without. Its an emotional theme, and the ending of this song relates that sadness as it doesn't end with a bang but with a soft drumming outro. A+ song.

    Pictures of Shorelines:
Just a plain old fun song. Its back to up beat and fast after the last two songs were a bit more on the restrained side. After that, this song does really well to get you back into the groove of the album and the ferocity it can contain. Containing heavy hitting lyrics, fast and well hit guitar notes especially in the bridge, and a rolling fast paced drum, this is a dang good song to get your blood pumping back into the swing of the album. And that last minute of this song is sweet, that has got to sound awesome in a live setting! That made the song for me.

    Wearing Thin:
Keeping up the pace! This one actually sounds a lot different than the previous faster songs, it stands out amongst its peers. While the other songs were fast and fun musically and lyrically, this one has this extra oomph of hefty shreaded guitars, powerful lyrics that hit you, and a much more intense sound to it especially in the front half of the song. This is probably the best song musically on the album. I did not like the way it ended though, it just suddenly fades out into these bizarre sounds; and it seems like it did so just as the song was picking up. That is a flaw that makes the song lose some points, but otherwise its an awesome song.

    A New Desert Life:
Cool, cool song. This was a killer song to end the album with. Its so varied, the first quarter of the song is this heavy in your face banger of a song, with kickass guitars and some nicely screamed and sung vocals; and then it reaches this point where it switches to a more somber sound, before slowly escalating back up one line at a time into the next half of the song. And then after 3:40 it just hits silence for FIVE minutes, before you are treated to what seems to be discussions of them in the studio just talking and goofing around. kind of odd, but I had a laugh at it. Doesn't seem like they take themselves too seriously, and that's kind of cool.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Overall, this was a nice listen and I enjoyed it. There were some times where I kind of felt like a song ended too soon, or that there needed to be a little extra something added to a verse here or there to really sell it to me, but this is a definitely skilled album and these guys have chops. They have some other albums on Apple Music and I'd be curious to look into them more, because it was an overall fun listen. I may not think its the godly album that @fenway89 finds it to be; but I cannot deny that its a dang fun listen that I will revisit again. 7.5/10

Glad you dug it Kevo! So the only reason i think it’s godly is cause it influenced the scene so much! The guys were in hardcore bands in the 90s then formed Further and got Chris Carrabba to sing. Then he left for Dashboard and they ended up with different singers on each album before reuniting with Carrabba on Penny Black. Many many bands like Emery talk about the huge inspiration Further had on them. Definitely check out How To Start a Fire. Equally good album with a different singer!

Sorry to double post. It’s just crazy that they got Chris right before he blew up as Dashboard Confessional. And that they replaced him so seamlessly with Jason Gleason
