Same here. It’s definitely held up for me, such a solid jam.

a little off topic, but eh, whatever.

Does anyone remember the band Akissforjersey? They put out a real solid album in 2014 that has some TOCS/DTGL era Underoath vibes. It seemed to fly extremely under the radar for as good as it was.

I generally try not to overplay too but this time I told myself it’s been 8 years, go nuts. It holds up beautifully I think. I have the same album reservations as everyone else but I think when you break it down, different pieces of this song fit beautifully on the other records so I’m good with this as a single. Plus spencer sounds like a madman.

Loved that band, especially the vocals. They had some really cool guitarwork too.

I know "Erase Me" is getting some mixed reviews. Do you guys think if this would have came out back in the day, maybe after Define the Great Line, that it would have been received better?

  19. awakeohsleeper

    I do not exist.

Potentially - but I bet a lot of people would have said "why is Spencer leading the cleans and not Aaron?"

I don’t think so at all tbh, especially with their explicit shedding of the Christian label.

definitely not. Spencer singing, simpler song structures, not Christian anymore all would turn a lot of fans off. Also some fans can explain the sound in time largely due to a passage of time.

i think it would've done better commercially since i'd imagine radio rock was doing better back then, but i think the backlash from the more hardcore fans may have been even worse since it'd have been such a rapid and stark change in direction.
in retrospect its really pretty incredible that a band with so much crossover potential made a successively heavier record 3 times.
