Really great Philadelphia show last night. I was a little frightened about sound quality and their ability to control the aesthetic of the show in an outdoor environment, but everything was super tight. Matty sounded really great, their musicianship was really on point, and the way that every song had its own lighting was really well thought-out. I particularly loved the city backdrop on "UGH!", which worked really well with the actual city in the background. "If I Believe You" was (of course) a musical highlight, and the look on Matty's face when he could just sit and smoke a cigarette, experiencing that saxophone solo like a fan was a really nice moment.

On a crowd note, it was a little better behaved than I expected. There was a genuine MOB of people out front the gates... some kids got there last night and tried to stay overnight. Lots of talking through The Japanese House, but they were boring as hell so I don't blame anybody. Everyone got into Wolf Alice, who had a lot more presence and some good songs. My girl and I scandalized all the 16 year olds between sets when we pulled out a one-hitter. Actually, the worst behaved people were a couple of dudes my age who kept yelling for "Robbers". Never saw so many phones in my life, but who cares? Had an incredible time.

I enjoyed The Japanese House. I look forward to checking out some of their stuff, especially considering that Matty and George have produced some of their music.

The Japanese House/Amber is awesome. She's great live, but it's obviously more ambient than a rowdy teen-filled 1975 crowd might want.

  5. Ever since the album was released I've tried to figure out what song was my favorite, but lately there's something about This Must Be My Dream that takes the cake for me.

I think this is still my favorite too, has been since the beginning. Ballad is close though.

Matty tweeted that Dave Elitch, best known as a touring drummer for The Mars Volta, will be filling in on drums for the next 6-8 weeks in George's absence.

I looked him up on Wikipedia and he's got some other impressive credits to him as well: Justin Timberlake, M83, Miley Cyrus, other acts

All three bands were fantastic last night at the MI date. I have to say that "If I Believe You" was probably the most near-perfect performance of the night. Wow, this band is incredibly tight.

Also, they really didn't need backing tracks of the "Loving Someone" sample because of the sea of female voices of the crowd. So awesome.

I have also seen the band each stop as they've grown in the States. It's truly amazing what they've accomplished, and I am so so excited for what's next. (Wouldn't be surprised if they announced their next string of tour dates on June 1.)

Loving Someone has definitely become a favorite of mine over the last week or two. Finally sitting down with the lyrics to the song gave me a whole new appreciation for it. It was also really great to see live.

Same. I've actually been planning out a 1975 tattoo with the lyric "For you are not beside but within me."

Maybe it'll be something like Medicine was, like maybe we'll get a standalone single in summer 2017 and a new album in 2018. Really cool to hear that they're already working on the next album though. Also, really cool to see they're going to work Antichrist into their set eventually.

  18. I was listening to "She's American" and "UGH!" as I was getting ready for work this morning. My two favorite tracks off this album.

Fuck, what a show tonight. The band was on point as usual lately. Matty wore a white t-shirt with an outline of Minnesota and "The Replacements" overlaid it, with two of the band members in cartoon form below it; pretty cool. The whole band seemed to be enjoying themselves, and the crowd was singing everything. When Matty asked everybody to jump during "The Sound", the place seemed to go bonkers. As for the openers, The Japanese House was bliss; I've loved her EP's, and despite the shitty acoustics of our venue, she still sounded great. Can't wait to see her do her own headline tour in the states hopefully soon. Wolf Alice was pretty good too; not exactly my cup of tea (outside of "Bros"), but the crowd in general seemed to enjoy them.

Overall a great show to end their current US tour; as others may know he's announced they're already coming back to the US this fall.

Saw someone suggest the 1st June announcement would be the documentary they've been filming since, well, forever.

that'd be cool. It could also be a new song since he said they might put one out next summer.

A Change Of Heart and Paris have grown to be stand outs in this for me.

I think I need to go through this album again. Might end up being a top 5 British release of the year for me.

I still haven't been able to give this album a full spin. I always reach "Somebody Else" and lose focus or have to do somebody else. I feel like within its whole context it's great and it has a big chance of clicking as soon as I get into it.
