This was a home run. Just really knocked me out in the best ways.

 

Definitely see how this could lean into the overtly "dramatic" tendencies Spielberg has that turn some off of his work, but it's all earned. In terms of his dramas, a three film run of Lincoln/Bridge of Spies/The Post is killer.

 

I will be seeing this either Saturday or Sunday and I could not be more excited.

if nothing else this reminded me that I really need to see The Fog Of War
it was so distracting seeing David Cross with hair
Spielberg makes a printing press the most fascinating thing and in general there's a lot of great technical flourishes and great acting, shoutout to Bob Odenkirk
and of course this is super timely

 

very enjoyable. speilberg reminds us every few years that, despite the ready player one's of the world, he can still be one of the best when he puts his mind to it

 

Ready Player One is gonna be awesome.

Not quite as strong as Bridge of Spies in terms of late period historical mode Spielberg, but very strong. He gets a little too cutesy trying to play American history professor in a couple of spots, but on the whole very masterful. Felt almost sloppy but in a good, loose, off the cuff, and energized way.

Also dear god if every great American character actor doesn't have a bit role in this

 

Enjoyed this while being unaware of the subject matter. While the acting was great nothing in terms of standout of the year performances. Nice to see Bob and David together as well as Bob with Meth Damon reunited. I will say I felt compelled during the entire day and night sequence of the Post staff sifting through the documents in Ben’s house and the decision to go to press. Watching Ken Burns’ Vietnam doc series couple months ago helped with framing the historical narrative.

 

Huge fan of newspaper movies but thought this was just fine. Totally concur about holy fuck at every character being an actor everyone recognizes haha

Lmao at the ending being the start of Watergate. As if its some hollywood movie alluding to a sequel

This was real good. Streep plays Graham's character progression so masterfully. And it looks like Hanks really enjoyed playing Ben Bradlee, he seemed to be having a good time inhabiting that kind of character. The supporting cast was uniformly great. Listening to those Nixon calls was incredibly unsettling, especially given some of the more recent parallels that only became parallels after this was done being made (like Nixon calling people treasonous just for opposing him when only last week Trump was saying Peter Strzok committed treason for sending anti-Trump text messages). I think I agree that Bridge of Spies was better but this was another win for Spielberg, which is good because I was personally disappointed in The BFG last year.

 

I liked it. I felt like it could’ve been made at any point in the last 30 years, which is why I like Spielberg. Hanks was just ok for me.

 

This is A Very Important Movie. But damn it's good. This thing fucking moves. Now I want to rank Spielberg.

 

I have Lincoln on in the background while I'm working and I forgot how absolutely incredible that movie is. Definitely one of Spielberg's best ever.
