Remember that Kevo has said on record that he hasn't listened to much Metallica (or Underoath)

New Underoath is on its way in April so you people know what to rec Kev now (Metalica, the answer is always Metallica)

Well, for the next few sessions everyone needs to alternate a Metallica rec with an Underoath rec until he has heard everything in their discographies.

@broken22 gave me Ace Frehley. I have always been fascinated by the move Kiss made by going with the quadruple solo albums. I love the idea that when the band hit a wall, rather than splitting up, they said "We are all unique artists. We all want to do our own thing. And the band is a big enough entity to support that."

Ace is no great shakes as a singer, but he gets by. And he's clearly been itching to try some things. The variety of the album is its best asset. It would all fall under the umbrella of "rock" obviously. But he stomps through some glam on "Rip It Out". He gets a little disco swagger into "New York Groove" which was deservedly a massive hit. He has some shiny almost Bay City Rollers pop touch on "Speeding Back to My Baby".

The most pleasant surprise is how well he used acoustic guitars (which I'm not sure I ever heard on a Kiss song) on "Ozone" and "Fractured Mirror" and "What's on Your Mind?" (probably my favorite song on the album). They're impeccably produced and layered.

Really the biggest conclusion you come to is that he was the member of Kiss with the most ideas. Which is not to say he was better than Stanley (he wasn't) or Simmons (eh...), but while those guys kind of toed the line with what their music would sound like, Ace seems to have had broader interests.

Great pick. Glad I finally got off my ass and heard a record I've been meaning to get to for years.

I never thought I'd say this, but St. Anger is actually UNDERRATED at this point. The hate is so intense. There's good shit there. It's just horribly produced.

I actually like the album, but it would do no good using it to introduce someone new to Metallica haha. I think I really will go with either Ride the Lightning or Black Album.

That comment was hyperbolic haha, I agree to an extent. There’s definitely positives to take from that album and some of the songs aren’t that bad. Main positives being that they got the band past a lot of their demons, worked out their issues with each other got them back on the road.

I think if it had better production, cut the track lengths down a bit plus threw in a few guitar solos it would’ve been a lot better.

Add guitar solos and remove trash can sounding drums and we got ourselves a discography without any real blemishes

I still am a big fan of "The Unnamed Feeling", "Shoot Me Again", the title track and some others.

"My World" is probably the worst song in their entire catalog though. That one hurts.
