    hmmm

Not really. It was you who brought a context into it that was completely irrelevant to his point.

I didn't say that poster was saying that about rap but acting like it's just as bad to say that about pop punk as it is about rap is dumb, somehow this is controversial so I guess I'm in the right thread

I just think you're kind've adding way more weight to the argument than was needed. The poster went on to acknowledge that a ton of hatred towards hip hop comes from a racist mindset. No one is ignoring the topic that you're bringing up, it just wasn't the subject at hand. I think they had pretty valid points, used a bad example in terms of rap without thinking of the racial element, and then got torn apart for it. Not necessarily needed.

I also think that poster has some shit going on that's deeper than you disagreeing with them, so we might as well stop talking about it.

    Predictable opinion:

The race to stay current and zeitgeist-adjacent is kinda counter-productive. Never makes sense to me to flex about hearing the 80th best album of 2018 when you haven't heard the 6th best from 1982 or the 2nd best from 1959.

Counterpoint: The 80th best album from this year might be from a band I can go see for five bucks, and support, and they might be making the best album of the year in the future.

Also counterpoint: We're able to hear the 80th best album of the year. It's considerably harder to even find 80 albums from 1952 or whenever.

Also don't know what it is counter-productive to.

I mean, your "8th best album of '72" could be absolutely meaningless to me. I don't necessarily limit myself to one year over another, but I will make an effort to check out more records from the current year simply because that's where the conversation is. I got pretty deep into the Blue Nile's first few records this past month but don't really speak about it because the conversation isn't there. I'll listen to Pianos Become the Teeth a few times because that's what people are talking about.

right is there something wrong with wanting to keep up with the current culture of music? do you HAVE to listen to the 2nd best album of 1965 to be able to enjoy the 80th best album of 2017?
