All I have to say on the matter is if you download a leak, be sure to purchase the album, buy some merch, go to a show, etc. Do something to show your support. Support the artists you like. It's confounding otherwise.

Also, people can do what they want. They could wait until Friday because it might be more convenient for them (people have full time jobs or may be on college campuses where you can't illegally download ya know) or people can download the leak and listen early. Who gives a shit? Just make sure you give them the money they deserve if you're grabbing it for free.

so kingdomleaks apparently had been advertising "a week of leaks"

which means these people aren't just sharing links but people there are actively leaking

yea I saw that, that really does suck. they did 3 straight days with more coming. It is a problem if people aren't going to support after downloading. With this bandcamp opportunity there's no reason not to throw some money at the record now.

I really love Manila, especially that switch to half time feel about halfway through. just feels great.

 

I don't think I fully understand how these albums leak. is it people in the industry leaking them, writers, someone at the label? like if fans arn't getting their hands on these things and all albums are watermarked now how does it happen. I just saw a discussion recently about how albums don't leak anymore and then 3 leak a week early.

 

so, there are a few ways. the most common way is that a CD gets out and someone leaks it.

the worse way is when an industry insider or press person or in some rare cases hacker decides to put it out. that is not good and incredibly harmful for bands.

there's been a few occasions of big league days in the past. like, when a few big profile albums all leak a month or two early.

i'm wondering if these albums are all in the same load as the big indie albums (ought, superchunk, few others) and the leakers are now just deciding which ones to release when

 

glad i missed the bullshit pages of people talking about album of the year shit lol

 

idk. if i didnt listen to the leak i would just be streaming friday. bands get a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a cent from streaming. i dont see listening to a leak and listening to a stream as being morally different.

 

now hoping for a leak or leaking yourself is one thing, but listening to leaks is not bad imho.

 

just leave your spotify playing constantly when you're not at your computer. that way the bands can get their $0.25 checks at at the end of the month.

 

I think 1,500 streams equals an album sale. So if you listen to this album 150 times on spotify and apple music you're good lol

oh yeah, i think the fact that it leaked isn't horrible but the fact it was leaked due to what seems to be a targeted insider/hacker as opposed to just a cd copy showing up early is not good
