I like this record a lot more than I expected. It’s a neat little record. Really easy going and enjoyable. I’d like to here an acoustic version realeased down the road.

This is a very disappointing record, don't see myself returning to this much

pretty mixed reactions but thats better than all negative i assume. Its by far my least favorite dashboard record and I don't see that ever changing, at least its short tho. Almost feels like an EP

I couldn’t figure out which song the intro to Catch You reminded me off and it just came to me, it’s The Best Thing (That Never Happened) by We Are The In Crowd.

Also, I’d agree that this feels more like an EP than an album, I’d even say it feels like a mixtape even though that’s not really heard of in this genre

Maybe I'm way off base here, but it feels like if this was just a random guy/band, I'd be able to just like this for what it is. It's just that against everything Carabba has done before (including new FSF, which I personally love), it falls short. It's fine and even good, but that isn't what I'm used to from him.

I dunno. Is it possible to both like an album and wish it was something more? Because that's definitely where I'm at with it.

I'm going to have listen a few more times to actually decide how I feel. We Fight, Belong, and Be Alright are my favorites on first impression. I also actually really liked Open My Eyes, you guys confuse me sometimes. Just What To Say is a nice closing (although maybe a little too accurate of a summary of the album.)

I don't think it's a bad album. Overall I enjoyed it, but it's the kind that makes you just think like we waited 9 years for... this? And if you're going to make your first album in 9 years only 9 songs, I expect every one of those songs to wow me. I'll probably listen a couple more times, but I can't really see this having any lasting value for me. I may throw it on if I'm going to a show they happen to be playing.

I want to see a Dashboard show that properly respects Alter the Ending. They opened a radio show for Paramore in December, and I was overjoyed that they played Get Me Right (although I just looked at the setlist and that wasn't on there- I could've sworn they played it though).

  8. So unfortunate. Best thing Chris has done in years IMO.

It seems Chris has been writing for years to make this album happen and to release on a big label too it’s underwhelming. I’ll be honest I preferred the songwriting on Penny Black more it’s just a shame the production/mixing is so jarring on it.

  10. Penny Black with a better sound/mix/producer would have been incredible. And I still like that album, obviously more than most.

  11. I agree with this. those songs were so good, just had a bizarre sound! some of those songs are essential though, "So Cold" and "Janie" for sure. i pick out at least a few i love whenever i go back to it.

100% agree. I’ve always defended it on here but the mixing/production makes it hard to get through on some listenes depending on the mood I’m in. Still think it’s great though and I love So Cold as a single. Such a big song in my opinion.

Oh yea the songs are great. Just wish the mix wasn’t so muddy and the vocals weren’t so tuned

No idea how I haven’t heard Penny Black yet. Listening now and I’m just gonna go ahead and imagine this being the new DC album haha.

I like this. Not as much as Alter the Ending but I'm happy with how it turned out.

The last song Chris wrote that still hits home every time I hear it is “Water and Bridges”. I wish I could say the same for a song off CS but I can’t.

I’m on the title track and wow does he sound like a robot when ‘hitting’ the higher notes in the chorus. Wow. So distracting.

How do you feel about this record?

  22. It’s fine not great. I’ve posted some thoughts in this thread. I don’t love it, but it’s got some good songs. And some really bad ones.( And the last one I loved.)

I spun Alter the Ending tonight, and man, that album is just so good. Chris was one of the best hook writers in the business on that album. Even the songs I like on this record just pale in comparison to something like "Until Morning."

There's less I will come back to on this record than I was hoping for. So many throwaway, by-the-numbers hooks. Like cmon Chris, we know you can do it. Then you also end up with tracks like Be Alright that have half of a great hook in the chorus... and it ends up being weird and uneven.

We Fight is such a cool song though. That chorus is just explosive. And so is Just What to Say.
