You can upgrade at 12 months, so it would be $672/yr for the 256GB X.

Picked up my HomePod today - the sound is seriously amazing. Siri can’t really do anything but I bought it for a speaker not an assistant so it’s perfect for my needs.

is the power cord on the back of that thing replaceable? I could see my cat chewing through a few of those.

  12. It is not - it is fabric lined

  13. I'm so glad it works with iCloud Music Library because it would be shitty to not be able to play my advances on it #firstworldproblem

  14. Hahaha. Did you see the stock market today! Haha, I can't buy shit!
But yeah, I really think the kitchen would be a great place to play music on one of these. I play music from the Echo and it sucks. Heh.

Can you bluetooth music to it yet or can it only play from an apple music library? Big determining factor on the purchase.

  16. You use air play to play from Spotify

The HomePod design in general is a potential disaster for cat owners.

  18. I hate the new Apple TV YouTube app.

    Edit: Related:

Reports of Google’s Newfound Design Prowess Have Been Greatly Exaggerated
Case in point: their new YouTube app for tvOS. The last version didn’t represent a dramatic design statement or look particularly special — it was pretty much the same as any of the default tvOS apps — but it worked, for the most part. It was the only app I’ve used on my Apple TV that would regularly kick me back to the tvOS home screen instead of the last screen in the app when I pressed the remote’s menu button while watching a video, and it had stability problems when searching, but it wasn’t terrible.

The new app, though, represents everything wrong with Google’s present UI design philosophy.

The only thing I do like about the new YouTube app is the ability click skip ad vs the old “press to skip” method that rarely worked.

Looking forward to getting the HomePod. Right now I control most of my smart home from my Apple Watch. The echo dot has been relegated to my wife’s office. Honestly besides the obvious music use, I just need it for smart home control, a timer, and basic questions.

Google Assistant is getting a lot of praise but everyone is glossing over what a shit show it is at controlling smart home devices. I tried a mini and it kept saying it couldn’t find devices that my watch and the echo had no problem controlling.

Only thing that keeps me from totally wanting a Homepod is that it doesn't have a battery. I've been holding out on buying a portable speaker for a while and thought the Homepod would change that, but now I'm not sure if I'll get one once it becomes available in Canada.

I'm not one to shout out trivia questions to my voice assistants, but holy hell is Siri bad at some simple stuff. Go ask her how many Super Bowls the Patriots have won, or how many Stanley Cups the Montreal Canadiens have - you won't get the answer but you'll know how many people are on their respective rosters.

And I don't know what they did in the last update to Siri, but literally every time she'll hear me right the first time "How many Super Bowls do the Patriots have?" and I can see the text changing on the screen to "How many Super Bowls did the Patriots had?"

Siri has become Apple's internet explorer. It was the first of its kind to go mainstream and have widespread adoption, but was quickly surpassed by newer, innovative products that did it faster and better. And even after Microsoft fixed a lot of the issues with internet explorer, the reputation of being a shitty browser just stuck. That's the big problem apple has - Siri can get better in iOS 12 and go head to head with Alexa and Google Assistant, but the reputation of being a frustratingly useless voice assistant to most people will still be there.

I remember when it came out, everybody wanted to have Siri on their phone. Now people are just frustrated by it.
