I love DC. But this has to be his worst album. I still love him.

    all we have is time

Not sure what you guys are talking about regarding the synths being overbearing. There's really not that much of it..

"About Us" and "Just What To Say" have been the non-singles I've gone back to the most so far. Definitely not their best record, but it's not bad at all. I dig.

I second the JEW vibes from "Open My Eyes"

I usually think Butch is better producing his own stuff than producing for other artists, but he really nailed Alter the Ending. I wouldn't begrudge Chris not bringing him back if this album was going to be something extremely different, but it's not. The best songs sound like Alter the Ending songs and the worst songs sound like watered down versions of Alter the Ending songs with some extra pop elements thrown in.

    It's my job.

It's funny though: I don't miss Butch on Fallon's new record. I loved what he did on Painkillers, and I think he and Fallon had some great musical chemistry, but Hutt just gets Fallon. This record, it feels like there was no one there to help guide the process. I don't even know who produced it.

The opener and closer almost justify this albums existance for me tho ha. Both of those songs are so good

Not great - but not bad. I can see this album bring something I put on in the background. This is by far not his best work but damn does he sound confident and strong.

I don't hate it, but it's pretty much immediately down there with The Shade of Poison Trees as one of my least favorite Dashboard records. I said this to Jason, but I think I'd be a whole lot less disappointed if this wasn't carrying the weight of eight and a half years of expectations.

shade of poison trees is a better record than this one IMO. That record seemed to have more substance

That one just never had any songs I felt super passionate about. I think the bookends on this are better than any songs on Shade.

Yeah on second listen I'm really liking this album. Song writing is top notch and so is the production.

The only song that really sucks ass is "open my eyes". I'm not sure what he was thinking with that one.

Hm, first listen and I actually enjoyed quite a few of these songs (at least as background music while I work) -- and I haven't been a big Dashboard fan in quite awhile. Only one I didn't care for was "Open My Eyes."

Open My Eyes starts out just fine until that chorus.

Overall the album is decent. Not amazing, but not terrible. I'm still absolutely obsessed with Heart Beat Here. And the closer has heavy Julien Baker vibes.

I feel like poison trees has a lot more of an identity than this record, this album starts off with two songs that rock harder than anything that follows on the whole record, then it goes into a imagine dragons esq pop song which segways into a twin forks sounding songs which segways into another synth pop song. Tracks 3-5 are so sporadic and sound just like he took a bunch of random songs he wrote and threw them together. The final 3 tracks flow really well though, I'll give it that much even if the open my eyes chorus is a bit annoying.

I just never felt like Shade had any identity, either. It always just struck me as him trying to recapture something that was gone, while this strikes me as him trying to chase trends. Neither do his talents justice.
