im going to do a think piece post, and its going to be a mess. @ComedownMachine 's post saying he felt bad for his harsh review just reminded me of this.
@Larry David @BTDandFeelingThis this is the conversation i had in my brain that ive referenced like twice that i never actually revealed what it was about. here it is. its going to be a ramble pretty much. i hope people actually read this post because id love to get a discussion going about it.

i hope Kev and Adam dont mind me using them as an example. Probably about a month ago this thought was inspired when Kevo made a post about how he was listening to a Mount Eerie album. Both Adam and I made a post in reply to hearing Kev was listening to a Mount Eerie record. Both were essentially along the lines of us being surprised Kev was listening to Mount Eerie. Now, this could come off as dickish or something, but adam and i both assured Kev that it wasnt a slight at his tastes, more so just surprised because it is so different from his usual favorites. the same could be said if reversed. If i made a post being like "loving this listening session of Enema of the State", Kev would probably give the same reply to me that we had of him listening to Mount Eerie.

So, here is where i started to think. Is it possible for people that listen to catchier, more accessible music to not think that people that are listening to stranger, more far out / less accessible music are looking down upon them. AND, in reverse, is it possible for people that listen to less accessible more out there music to not assume that the people listening to more accessible music are judging them for being pretentious are hipster or something.

Now, obviously i know it IS possible. but more so i guess im asking.... how can it be avoided? Do people that have different music tastes really not judge eachother. And an even more important question, do people ever feel judged by the other type of listener just because.

I want to clarify, im not actually saying "you either listen to catchy music, or you listen to weird music", thats not what im saying. obviously tastes vary a ton. i listen to a ton of stuff. but i think you people will get what im trying to say.

Is it inevitable that the one taste will both judge and or feel judged?

but i guess thats my question, why does not liking something have to be snobby? or why is it considered snobby?
    shut up (i love you)
i know i came off as really black and white in this post, and i know that real life isnt actually like this. like Sigur Ros's valtari is an all time favorite of mine, and also Jacks Mannequin Everything in Transit is an all time favorite. one is a droney post rock ambient album in a language i dont speak, and the other is a pop album. thats why i felt like i had to use actual chorus people as an example. Like, Mine and Adams tastes and Kevs tastes. because then people will get what im saying. also should mention neither is better or worse - just preference of the listener

    It’s an interesting topic.

You obviously don’t have to like the music that other people like, but you should be able to convey that without coming across as snobby ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I judge. I feel bad about it.

but even if you do convey it as not snobby, how often will the person still think youre judging?

And also, to the chagrin of the other side: how often will someone that doesnt like the "weird" album be looked at as "well they just doesnt get it - they arnt there yet musically"

    both are BS right.

It probably depends on the people involved and the tone of the conversation.

I think honestly saying something like “this style of music just isn’t for me” or “I didn’t care much for the vocals” shouldn’t come across as snobby.

I think this site and it’s users are a hard place to judge this because all of our tastes probably align somewhere.

Also, because of that, I think we all feel more comfortable ragging on others because they like something we don’t, because we know the same is true the other way around and that we probably agree about something.
