The US police forces have their origin in catching escaped slaves. There's a reason they've always been a super racist group - they were originally founded on super racist origins.

 

How does that make his comment any less ridiculous?

 

While this is true, it does not negate the racism that built and continues in the UK.

 

it's dangerous to say "well the us police has origins in policing slaves so that's why it's racist" because you're minimizing the very real racism that exists in police forces all over the world

 

Of course racism exists everywhere, but the US police force is the only one I know of where it's actively encouraged and for all intents and purposes, never punished.

I will admit to being less knowledgeable about other nation's police forces though.

 

I think POC in predominately white countries outside of the US would have a different perspective than this

Well, most police forces came about around the time of industrialization and their basic function, which hasn’t changed, was to monitor and police the underclass. In other countries, their colonial subjects, through the process of racialization, became that underclass, that class constituted and defined by exploitation and destitution, out of which the cultural racism came, thereby making them even more heavily policed.
