I hate when I catch myself sounding like a cynical asshole

"that movie looks like it sucks"

my big thing is that I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings and if a piece of art did something for you that it didn't do for me, then I should respect what it did for you and try to learn from that instead of just being a dick about it and mindlessly trashing things all the time

I came in here to say bill nye show was bad and ya'll we're already talking about criticizing stuff hahah. I normally won't go out of my way to go into album/entertainment threads to shit on something unless I was actually disappointed by it i.e. it's something I thought I'd like and it ended being bad.

I think Dustin is mostly right, but at the same time people are capable of (for instance) stating that they don't like something without coming off in any way that'd turn others off. It really can't be THAT hard

Especially on the internet. Like in person I know it becomes a more quick-react thing but on the internet we can do better at it. It's just hard to think about that so often given that not only do we have the habit of just immediately going after things we don't like, we're on websites (not singling out this one at all, the whole internet does it) where it's what's constantly around us.

For sure it's all about tact but I feel like alot of times people here don't have that. I'm comfortable with everybody in here and a few more threads here I really just don't wanna branch out

in a perfect world I would only talk about the things I like but the things I like aren't brought up in this thread all that much, so it gets rather tricky. but I once heard someone say "it's okay to not have an opinion about everything" and that really stuck with me. I think we might all get along better if we kept that in mind

I enjoyed the new Cloverfield. It wasn't amazing or groundbreaking, but I don't think everything has to be in order to enjoy it.

my girlfriend received a grant today to go to some kind of workshop in Las Vegas for a week this July and she wants me to go too. free room at caesars and meals are paid for. a week in vegas seems like a bit much but fuck it.

i think my biggest hang-up with it is she'll be busy with workshop all during the days while we're there. that's 40 hours of alone time for me to go bankrupt or something idk i just don't know wtf I'd do the whole time haha

Society is trained to do it. So much of media is "tell us what you think." That has just increased 20-fold in the last five years or so. Add in social media (especially twitter) where the entire platform is just there to voice opinions and it's re-taught society in such a quick manner.
