I love this band v much

I'm glad this single continues their trend of writing great synth pop songs with 00s emo melodic elements

    You don’t think so?
I much prefer the 2nd one but stylistaically i found them quite stagnant.

The two albums were definitely in the same vein as each other, but the second one was totally a refinement of the band's sound. Not a huge departure from the debut, but rather an update.

Which was fine, I’m just hoping for a little something this time.

I don't think it's bad for a band to have a signature sound as long as it's not dated

I mean we can all pretend diminishing returns aren’t real

But it's not like they're exactly retreading the same thing, they evolved but didn't reinvent themselves from the first album to the second and this seems like another evolution. Look at a band like ETID, they've steadily evolved from release to release and never totally reinvented themselves. No real diminishing returns and they've been at it for 20 years and 8 albums.

Yeah, second album was different enough from the first that I wasn’t bored in the slightest. It’s perfectly fine to have a signature sound as long as you change the songwriting up a bit, it’s not like they’re Bayside or New Found Glory.

Actually I’d levy the same criticism towards ETID too ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'll write you into all of my songs Supporter

Second album was a huge step up for them. But the real question is:

Will there be a Martin song 1/2 way through?

This sounds pretty different than their last album, doesn't have that whimsical sheen and is much more direct. Such a jam though!

Another twist: if you zoom in on their new promo pic, lauren is wearing a necklace that says “Love is dead”. Further confirmation of title.

FWIW I have zero issue with them sounding exactly the same if we get TBOWYB quality material. The risk is even if the album is only slightly worse than its predecessor, its hard to find a reason to actively listen to it. I think EOE is a swell album, but when I'm in a Chvrvches mood I go TWBOYB 95 times out of 100.

I thought the chorus was lacklustre at first but that all changed once the bridge rolled in. That one-two punch towards the end was sensational. Excited to hear more as the record gets unveiled.
