I don't listen to it that often any more but I haven't been listening to much at all. Every time I do however it's still one of the best things I've heard in years.

Still listen to this weekly. A lot of songs work in phases for me and get a handful plays while the album itself probably gets one listen a week.

Haven't listened to this all the way through since the week it came out, ha. I still listen to my favourite songs from it every now and then though. Whenever I attempt to listen to the whole thing, I just can't get past the boring middle section and I end up skipping it to get back to the songs I actually do like, as I've mentioned before.

Just doesn't draw me in like the first one, and it doesn't have a lot of what drew me to this band in the first place.

That said, I would not hesitate to watch them live and their set is probably still crazy.

I think I listened to their first album for the first time like a week or two before the new one came out, and it didn't draw me in like ILIWYS did. I've listened to it multiple times all the way through since it came out, I'm pretty sure it's the first pop album I've really gotten into (granted I don't think this album is just a pop album, there's so much going on)

  8. It's just such a front to back album to me that putting on a portion of it or just a random song doesn't ever feel right. Somebody Else, She's American, and UGH! are a few exceptions, but on the whole I just avoid listening to this if I don't have the time for its entirety haha.

I did just take an hour and half drive down to Tucson to catch a show on Monday though and listened to this. The magic is most certainly still there!

The purposeful "sectioning" of the album is a massive deterrent for me giving this album full spins since about a month after release. I don't think it makes for a smooth listen from start to finish since the switch in mood sticks around for ~20 minutes at a time. It feels more like 3 releases in one, which I can see why many see that as a positive. I just don't think it's balanced over the 70 minute runtime. The middle section of ambient tracks is easily my most played part of the record and favorite thing they've ever done.

I think it actually does a really good job transitioning in and out of each section. It feels like a cohesive whole even if I don't love every song.

Their first album had more lasting power for me, but I think their second album is a better album. Makes zero sense I know.

Was listening to "Captured by the Moment" by Steve Perry and was immediately mad at myself for not putting it on my "80s songs The 1975 make me think of".

I like the new stage set up a ton. These big places are so much harder to actually really love the performance though since it's not so much in your face, the 1200 cap I saw them in was probably the best mix of performance and intimacy, and I've seen them at every stage of their career and in every size venue.

Was cool seeing my friend who doesn't like this style of music and is real pretentious about it in general into Somebody Else though

You saw them when they only had the EPs, I guess back in spring of 2013, right?

that was the first time, yes. technically twice before the LP came out. other time in june of 2013, before the album was announced. was wild seeing the new songs and being like "whoa, this album is going to be so fucking poppy", haha.
one of the best show moments i've ever seen was when chocolate came on at that first show and everyone started singing and matty like stumbled over the first line he was so in shock, haha. biggest "holy shit, we've made it" moment i've ever seen on stage

but yeah, last night was #6 for me. 250 cap in march 2013, 500 in june 2013, 750 in october 2013 right after the album came out, 1200 in may 2014, 4000 in december 2014. then an outdoor pavilion with a lawn at a festival last night.

It must be absolutely incredible to be able to have been in attendance of their growth here in the states. Honestly, it's wild to just look at that timeline from early 2013 to now.

It was a bit chilly tonight but I had a good buzz and warmed up after the first good handful of songs. Absolutely incredible time though. The stretch of Me, Fallingforyou, and Somebody Else was breathtaking. Other highlights include Loving Someone, You, If I Believe You, The Sound, and Sex.

Seriously though, just an absolutely amazing time tonight. I was surprised the gospel choir wasn't with them. We're they not there for anybody else? They were at Coachella so maybe they're only there for festivals?

Regardless, the setlist for this tour was just about all I could ask for. The stage setup was captivating, just like last time. I really can't wait to see these guys again. Aiming to see them in June with Carly Rae Jepsen in NJ.

I'm really interested to see what their setlist will look like though in future tours. I'm betting The Ballad Of Me And Brain will make its way back in and I expect This Must Be My Dream to make it in as well. Holding out hope for Lostmyhead in the future though!

You know what I miss? All the promotional sessions or acoustic things they did for the last album bc they were still at a point where they needed to promote.

Obviously SNL and Fallon are huge, and those videos are fun, but I miss being able to go through the dozens of sessions they did for radio stations, record store promos, etc.

  23. @Deathco_019 the choir was there for my date. Also, what is this about a show with CRJ? Is that part of a tour or something?

Sad to hear about Matty's Dad. Haven't heard anything about cancellation/postponement of the tour, so I hope it means he's going to be okay.
