I'm similar with eating at least. I can't eat in a 2+ hour range before running. As far as not eating, I've found that running before I eat in the morning has been surprisingly good. I don't usually have energy issues and I use eating breakfast as motivation haha.

A dangerous, very personal inquiry, but do you guys get wedgies or have issues with boxers when you run? I don't know if it's the material, style or maybe how I run or the shorts I wear but sometimes I get some serious issues and have to stop and... Adjust a lot.

That would definitely happen to me if I wore boxers, which is why I don't. Always wear compression shorts

Same. I actually like wearing running shorts with built in support but I've got some thick thighs so I get the chub rub pretty bad without them.

picked up some compression shorts, socks, a pair of Nike FS Lite Run 3's and a pair of Asics GEL Fujilytes. Loving the Nike's right from the get go and excited for a run tonight.

Ran six miles today in my new Nikes and compression shorts. Holy hell, the compression shorts stole the show! About halfway through i realized that aside from my shorts brushing briefly against my legs above my knees, it didn't even feel like i was wearing anything. AWESOME! can't believe i ran in fucking boxers all these years (not that i've been running like a "runner" for years, but still, any activity was done in boxers). was so happy with their performance (Jockey High Performance Pro or something like that) i went back to the store about four more pairs. will likely buy more soon and get rid of my boxers entirely. thank you so much @FTank for the recommendation!

Try to drink either special liquids like Nuun, or gels. Today I did a 12-mile long run with my local running group, and after hitting up the two different aid stations on the run and having the gels and drink, I totally felt a boost after each time. Do you have any specialty running stores near you? If so they should be able to recommend some liquids/gels you might be able to try

So what's a good target for calories to burn a week? I know it's kinda complicated but I think I'm gonna aim for about 5000, is that good?

Depending what you do for a living / for exercise you may be surprised at how many calories you burn a day. I never really knew how to judge or count burning calories but ever since i got my FitBit I find that i burn about 5,000 a day. From what I've read, you're "supposed" to burn about 3,000 - 3,500 a day.

I'm a bartender so I'm on my feet moving around alot. A usual run at the gym is 900 calories in 55 minutes, but now it's sunny and i'm riding my bike I only burn around 300 a day

The upside to being in terrible shape is that I can burn 400 calories running two miles. Haha

7 mile bike sounds good, 5 mile run... nope. I could maybe do 5 miles at double that pace.

everyone's gotta start somewhere. when i started running 10+ years ago i would just do a little loop in my backyard because i didn't want anyone to publicly see me running. i made a track in our grass that pissed my dad off sooo much he bought me a treadmill haha
