This is Life is nothing short of a banger

 

Fuuuuuuuu, "This Is Life" is sooooo good. That quick guitar that runs throughout the track I love; love it when bands do that kind of chord

 

Also AJ's voice sounds so much better so far in my listen. On Golden Record, I thought I heard his vocal cords splitting a couple times lol.

One of the reasons we made this a self-titled record, is that we’re bridging the gap between the two eras of The Dangerous Summer. We’re tying up loose ends and saying, ‘This is where The Dangerous Summer is at right now, and this is where we’ll be in the future.’

Where do you see the future of The Dangerous Summer?
We’re going to push forward as hard as we can. I had this epiphany and realised that I needed to do music again, and my aim is to be a musician for life. I lost sight of that goal for a second, but now I want to create and be an artist, and do whatever it takes to get to that next step. No matter what, I’m going to keep on the path of musicianship and never stop.

 

Opener is soooo good.

 

This makes me so happy.

 

Just came in here to chime in and say that this album hit me very hard. AJ seems to be occupying a similar headspace to me. Also we are from the same home town and I think it makes all the lyrics about home resonate even stronger with me. The Recher theatre line destroyed me

 

I've never been a big fan of this band, and I'm not sure this album really changed that, but I want to just pop in real quick to say that they nailed the closer, so much that it may actually encourage me to come back and give this another couple listens.

 

When I Get Home is like AJ singing a The Starting Line song and I'm about it.

 

At school right now so I've only listened once (on my drive in this morning). My first reactions, disordered:

-first and foremost, not sure where it'll end up on my album ranking after a bunch of listens, but there's no question it's better than GR.
-the drummer is deffo really good, but no one will ever replace Tyler :/
-the guitar parts are really interesting. Well mixed, too.
-Love that they're using some unconventional song structures.
-AJ's vocals somehow sound exactly like the GR raspiness but without sounding at all like GR. I have no idea how to explain it, but...yeah. They're super raspy but without ever feeling like they lost musicality.
-biggest disappointment after one listen is Luna, mainly because I have a child and I was hoping this song would make me bawl my eyes out, which...didn't happen. It's an okay song, nothing special, and that bums me out a little.
-on the other hand, it's immediately obvious this whole record is gonna be a slow burn. The way I feel about it in a month will probably be entirely different from how I feel about it now.

So yeah. About to drive to work so I'll listen to it again on the way, then I'm going to see them tonight in Austin! First time ever seeing them live, and first show I've been to since...holy shit, since my birthday in 2015. Dear god. This is gonna be SUUUUUUUPER emotional for me, for myriad reasons. First, because RFTS got me through a really low point in my life in college, as did Everyone Left from WP (although oddly that was the only song on that album I liked for a long time), so I have some pretty major emotional connections with this band's music. Second, because I hadn't thought about this til now but that last show I went to (Noah Gundersen in Houston) was the start of a really shitty period of life for me. When I got home after the show I took a shower and found a lump on my right testicle, which ended up being cancer. My wife was pregnant at the time, and we were staring down the barrel of having to move twice in three months (long story) so we both pretty much had a breakdown.

Things are trending up now. I'm cancer-free, we have a wonderful child and a stable living situation. I'm graduating in May and already have a job lined up. So hopefully this show will put the bookmark on that period of life.

Sorry for the rambling. If any of yall go to the Austin show and see an awkward dude in the back crying his goddamn eyes out, that's probably me :p

 

Listening to this now and it’s good so far. Not blown away or anything.

 

feels like a grower to me. i don't like any dangerous summer album the whole way through so i'm not expecting this to be a sudden masterpiece or anything but i like it so far. usually at every point i'm like "this song is nice, a little lightweight" they add a part that makes me like it more (currently experiencing this with the end of "wild again." also the lead guitar tone on that song is GORGEOUS)

 

Hot take, the drummer on War Paint was better than Tyler.

...was that not Tyler playing on the record? I was just watching the videos for songs from that album and he's definitely in the videos, but did he not record?

I mean I remember him quitting the band but I could've sworn he came back in time to record WP (and then left again before GR obviously).

He's definitely pretty killer as well. AJ has always been smart enough to hire really kick ass drummers.

I remember reading/hearing that Tyler actually wrote all those parts and Spencer just performed them but idk the accuracy of that.

 

after a few listens: there are a few lulls in this album but for the most part it's a huge step up from GR.

i can definitely see myself revisiting this.

 

This is some good shit.

 

The best part of all this is the fact that Cody Payne isn't a part of it. I can love this band all over again.
